Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Anyone that has seen it, where would it rank among the rest of the Star Wars flicks? I'm assuming it's not touching Empire and is way better than Phantom Menace. But other than that?

I hear it ranks high in terms of action (it's been referred to as a "war movie") and low in terms of fun ("slow paced" and "dark").

I think I'd be ok with that. I'm planning on seeing it anyway but it's good to know the experiences have mainly been positive

It reminds me a bit of a combination of elements of Star Wars and Return Of The Jedi. There is a lot of exposition and set up early on, but that's as expected since we know almost none of the protagonists. Action sequences are very good and a really fantastic space battle.

Vader scenes are solid and his last bit is really cool.

Very dour. Not a footloose and fancy free affair. You pretty much know what happens to these people, so the humor is in fits and starts but really the undercurrent is serious as hell.

Not a "fun" movie in the usual Star Wars way. More "Wars" and much less gee whiz.

Yeah, it puts the 'war' back in 'Star Wars'. The battle scenes are fabulous. It is very dark and bleak, but also very funny in places.

My top 2 and bottom 2 are locked, and I could mix the other 4 up on any given day.

Ah ok. Since you're ranking, I might as well too. The most important two and least important two are the same...

(Haven't seen Rogue yet)

Empire

New Hope

Jedi

Force Awakens

Revenge

Clone

Phantom

Have t seen rogue either. Apparently I rate III higher than most.

V, IV, III, VI, VII, I, II for me. I find clones to be a snooze fest and VII too derivative of original.

I really want to see this. I enjoyed TFA so something tells me I should give this a view.

The trailer looked fantastic in the cinema and the cast looks strong.

I loved the film. Certainly the Darkest SW film in a while. and this film Certainly emphasis on the Wars in Star Wars.

Seeing Tarkin again was my highlight.....and Vadar going Apeshit.

Just saw it and hells bells was that entertaining. It's worth seeing again just to look at, visually it's amazing and overall I thought it was a damn fine movie...and the scene with Vader kicking everyone's ass was f***ing spectacular (admit it, we've all wanted to see him break bad and here's your chance). Very gritty kinda like the dirty dozen of Star Wars and the council meeting felt a bit like the Council of Elrond and I expected everyone to stop and look to Jyn to simply walk into Mordor and steal the plans.

I guess there's the obligatory ranking that we have to do and I'm afraid of recency bias but Rogue One is right up there with Empire way above the others. The prequels are all dogshit as far as I'm concerned and the original has such godawful dialogue that I can really watch it anymore....and then there's Jedi and those insufferable Ewoks...so here we go:

Empire

Rogue One

Star Wars

Jedi

The prequels.

I am not a Star Wars fan. I like most of the movies. They're entertaining. I just don't get the rabid fandom. With that said, I thought Rogue One was okay. Nothing new or groundbreaking. Typical plot and cliched scenes (think Galaxy Quest). [6/10]
