Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The nearest cinema to me not only has 3D but also 4D for Rogue One. 4D would include seats that are vibrating, shaking, have leg tickling, mist, etc. Is this usual where you guys are? This seems more like a theme park attraction but the theater by me is just a regular cinema, albeit a good one.

((Thinking this post might've gotten lost in everything))

No theater near you guys have this?

I didn't think you were serious.

Ah ok. No, I'm serious.

Actually, when I was at the cinema last night I was going to take a pic of the signs for it but didn't. They only do it for something big but they'll probably do it more often (for these kinds of movies) from now on. It's still pretty new and only the second or third time I've seen it done.

It's been done at theme parks for their theater attractions (Sesame Street, Shrek, etc) for years though.

((Edited to add)):

Here's the site of the cinema I went to last night. If you go down to the movie listings you'll see 4 theaters that are showing Rogue One: in Japanese, English, English 3D/Max 4D, and Japanese 3D/Max 4D.

https://hlo.tohotheater.jp/net/schedule/045/TNPI2000J01.do

I didn't check to see how much it is but I'm sure the 4D one has got to be at least ¥3,000 (around $30). I'd guess that because just IMAX 3D is ¥2,500. I don't want to pay that much for a 4D ticket.

I had to read up about it. I didn't even know it existed. From what I was reading it sounds like they don't do very well because the tickets are too expensive.

Holy crap, that was GOOD! A prequel worthy of the name, finally.

Awesome, man!

I haven't seen it yet and am avoiding spoilers but this is great news.

If this is true, the guy who invents the porn 4D theater will be a billionaire.

The 4D theaters are real. In the link that I provided previously, you can see that Biohazard part whatever is also playing in 4D. And I just checked the price--its ¥1000 (around $10) on top of the ticket price. That's a lot cheaper than I expected. Still seems like a waste though. Rogue One wouldn't need that or even standard 3D IMHO.

Porn 4D though...seems....messy.

As big as the porn/sex industry is here, porn theaters are virtually non-existent.

((I know you're j/k DD but everything in my reply here is truth))

It's called D-Box around here, and yes, it's expensive. $24 or so per seat.

Yes, those full-recline leather seats are nice! Theaters here serve beer now, as well.

Depending on the time, they'd be between $23-30 here.

The theater we went to yesterday had a full bar. They also had the recliner seats. I can't imagine drinking alcohol and watching a movie. I would fall asleep. It's one thing if you're sitting at home if you're out at a theater you have to drive home.

I agree. I'd be out for the rest of the movie...or going back and forth to the bathroom. Edited by goose

I've been to those type of cinemas. At most, I got a beer. No need for a full bar when it's just a movie.

All cinemas out here serve beer. Always have. I probably get one only about 10% of the time.

What a movie!! I have seen it twice now and I very, very impressed. Much as I liked last years movie (and I did) I found that suffered from ripping things off from the original. Not with this one - not in my opinion.

Loved the grittyness in it. It may have started slowly (as a movie) but it totally caught fire. Loved many of the positive things folks here have mentioned about it. One thing I loved, which has not been mentioned, is the storm troopers. These guys are supposed to be enforcers for the empire, the folks who controlled the galaxy for the empire. But I have always (with an exception here and there) found them to be sort of a joke in the movies. Just goons to be killed off in fights. Not here. In this one they were reasonably impressive. Their may have been a high body count among them but they were, at least somewhat, responsible for the high body count among others in the movie.

So where do a rank it among the Star Wars movies?? Better than last years (as good as that was). Better than Return of the Jedi. I really loved it when it first came out, perhaps even more than the original but it has not aged well (due to the Ewoks). Better than Empire Strikes Back which I never liked for some reason. Better than the 3 (very frustrating) prequels. Those movies had some good actors, had some interesting characters (e.g. Darth Maul & the many Jedi) and so much potential as stories. But they just were not well done. Horrible scripts. I will have to go back at some point and watch them again. So much great potential but just not well done. Very frustrating.

So that leaves it matched against the original. I will have to go and watch this one third time. Its hard to pick - its that good.

I guess my ranking would be something like:

IV / Rogue

VII

VI

I - III & V

I saw several news sources saying that she was in stable condition but according to her brother they really don't know anything yet. We just know she's on a ventilator.

They sell those too out here in cinemas.

The one thing they either don't sell or don't have quality tasting ones of are nachos. Very disappointing in that regard as I'd rather have nachos than popcorn when at the theater

Took my 2 kids to see Rogue One last night. I am speechless. It is amazing! The best Star Wars movie I've seen since the 70s (or whenever episode v came out).

My favorite Star Wars Films are now in this order:

1. Episode IV

2. Episode V

3. Rogue One
