TRF's possibly first official Beatles thread!

Recommended Posts

A Beatles top ten, eh...? Like Segue said, it's impossible for me to make a definitive list, but I'll give ten that would be in the running...

Eleanor Rigby

Savoy Truffle

Get Back

Helter Skelter

Let It Be

A Day In The Life

Strawberry Fields

Hey Bulldog

Here Comes the Sun

Paperback Writer

Tip of the iceberg.

Sorry but there are just too many to pick a top 10. Hey Jude would be in there for sure.

See just how hard it is. I missed Hey Jude. Maybe I'll do a next ten.

I think my fav is probably Here Comes The Sun. It was in my senior year marching show, it's my favorite song on Abbey Road, which is my favorite Beatles album, and it's just so happy and uplifting. I love a ton of their other tunes as well, but Here Comes The Sun tops the bill for me, but not by much.

It has a timeless beauty to it.

Doesn't count as a single song though, so I assume that's roughly your entire top ten?

Norwegian Wood...

I appreciate that this song popularized the use of the Sitar in rock, but man I can't stand it.

Funnily, sitar in mainstream rock has been roughly limited to The Beatles for the past 50ish years...not sure "popularized" is the correct word there.

Good point.

There's some sitar on the "Out of the Silent Planet" album by King's X, and... That's all I got.

and the White Album is? Come on man, half of that album is admittedly filler.

I love every song and how every song fits into place.

I enjoy Abbey Road. It's a classic. It's still about middle of the pack for me.

I prefer:

A Hard Days Night

Help!

Rubber Soul

Revolver

The White Album

And Sgt. Pepper's best songs quite a bit more than Abbey Road.

Funnily enough, She's So Heavy is my favourite song on that album.

Avoiding, as much as possible, songs on compilation albums:

There's a Place

I'll Be Back

No Reply

I've Just Seen a Face

If I Needed Someone

I'm Only Sleeping

It's All Too Much

Dear Prudence

Happiness is a Warm Gun

I've Got a Feeling

"It's not a skiffle group...it's a rock and roll band."

Dont get me wrong. Love the White Album. But by side 3 its like they were just defiantly outtin these duff tracks on. Just because. Its that classic double album syndrome. Savoy Truffle is cute but ifs a bside at best. Revolution 9 is mostly bollocks it should have just been a Plastic Ono band track.

The Abbey Road medley is my favorite. I know that's cheating.

Besides that...

A Day in the Life

Strawberry Fields Forever

Happiness Is a Warm Gun

Here Comes the Sun

In My Life

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Hey Jude

Tomorrow Never Knows

I've Just Seen a Face

And Your Bird Can Sing
