TOP TENS: Led Zeppelin

The question was "at this time of writing".

For many "at this time" is a time when Stairway has been overplayed to death.

doesn't mean it's not a great song.

That was not the question. The OP simply stated he was making HIS list "as of this time of writing"

So maybe I should make mine "what I thought 30years ago" also, much more relevant.

I'm confused by the commentary.

In case I wasn't clear, what I meant in the original post was "Here are my top ten RIGHT NOW. This list is subject to change tomorrow."

Stop...just STOP! Will you please stop stirring the pot????

I listed Stairway, but not Whole Lotta Love. I tried to avoid their most famous songs...Zeppelin only had a handful of albums, but a gazillion memourable songs.

Pretty remarkable, actually. :yes:

If their most famous songs are also, in your view, among the 10 best, throw 'em on there Rodrigo. :)

Stairway, is.... well.. Stairway. It's a classic of classics. Even if I get tired of it, doesn't change that fact. :)

Only ten, eh? Each and every Zep tune holds a memory and a place in my heart, but oK, I'll give it a shot:

Ten Years Gone

Achilles Last Stand

Stairway to Heaven

The Song Remains the Same

Good Times Bad Times

The Wanton Song

Fool in the Rain

Dazed and Confused (especially Live!)

No Quarter

The Rover

Damn, missed out on Trampled Underfoot, For Your Life, Over the Hills, Immigrant Song, Out on the Tiles, Kashmir, Nobody's Fault, Ramble On, When the Levee Breaks, etc. etc. etc.

I've had forty years to think this over, seeing as I started listening to LZ in '76 with TSRTS. Very few Zeppelin songs I don't really like so the competition is tough. Here goes:

1. Over the Hills and Far Away

1. Kashmir

3. Ten Years Gone

4. When the Levee Breaks

5. Ramble On

5. That's the Way

5. Four Sticks

8. Hairway to Steven, I mean Stairway to Heaven (the first four minutes is a bit stale to my ears, having heard it ten million times whether or not in the mood, but from "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now..." to the final descending notes might be the BEST 3+ minutes of rock ever.

9. Immigrant Song

10. Poor Tom

In no particular order...

* Your Time Is Gonna Come

* Tangerine

* Battle of Evermore

* Song Remains the Same (finally connected with me after 35+ years of Zeppelin)

* Kashmir (my son loves it, so I do now as well)

* Nobody's Fault But Mine

* Fool In The Rain

* That's the Way

* Black Dog

* I'm Gonna Crawl
