... with all due respect to Mr Petty, I'm talkin' Johnny Thunders

You best believe I'm from New York City.

You're telling me 'shut your mouth'

If I wasn't kissing, you wouldn't be around

You talk about f@ggots, little moma's boy

You sit at home, you got a chaperon

You need an escort to take a piss

He holds your hand and he shakes your dick

You're so pretty, suburban kitty

You think you're gonna change, rearrange your city?

Little London boys

You're little London boys

You're little London boys

You think you're gonna fool me?

Ha ha ha ha

Little rich kid, what do you know?

You had everything, don't you think it don't show?

I've been a climbing, just a face to the wall

Too much too soon, do you recall ?

One of my favourite subgenres, German Industrial music:

Einstürzende Neubauten

Haujobb

Project Pitchfork

KMFDM

Where does Kraftwerk fall?

I would put them more in the experimental pre-industrial category, maybe alongside John Cage, Tangerine Dream, and Laurie Anderson.

Industrial:

NIN

KMFDM

Ministry

Skinny puppy

Oh no, please don't include NIN in an Industrial big four list.

Epic fail.

NIN was a latecomer to the industrial scene, having released their first album in 1989, years after those other bands did. Back then there was a NIN ad that claimed they had created the genre, or some such bs. There are many other bands that actually created and revolutionized the genre. Maybe NIN was one of the most popular, but they were by no means unique.

They were about half a decade late to the punch so their not founders of the genre... And?

Their popularity is telling, and they are unique for quite a few reasons. The main reason would have to be that their music is completely polarizing.

"The Downward Spiral" may just be the most intense concept album in existence, I challenge you to give me another industrial album which is as intense both lyrically and musically (I'm admittedly a n00b in the genre, but I'm pretty confident in TDS)... On the flip side, they've got a lot of ambient works. If you played the two following songs to someone blindly they probably wouldn't guess they were works from the same project:

I'm not a n00b to the genre, having been intimately involved in it from the late 80s to the early 2000s, and if we're talking Big Four of Industrial then I named four other bands that had a much bigger impact on the genre and on other musicians than NIN did. Not to say Nine Inch Nails couldn't be part of another list, but I don't consider them to be a genre-defining band.

First wave elektronica?

Barracuda has a metal style riff but not much else from Heart is.

I disagree. Heart's "F#ck Tha Police", later famously covered by NWA, wuz pretty metal. Edited by goose

The Big Four Of 1976

- KISS "Destroyer"

- Rush "2112"

- Thin Lizzy "Jailbreak"

- Aerosmith "Rocks"

'76 is an impossible year to pick just four.

I know . . . Those were the first that came to mind, so I posted and moved on :D

Looking at the list of albums from '76, it really was incredible

They don't fit into the era in which I am referring too.
