Anyone remember this...

Luke's original lightsaber (Anakin's) was blue:

The one he made was green:

Why the hell was his original toy holding a yellow lightsaber?

my company rented a theater to see it Friday the 18th at 9am!!! Last two years we watched Hobbit movies.

I will end up seeing it again probably on Saturday and then again when the crowds die down.

something about sitting in a crowded theater that both excites and scares me at the same time.

1) It wasn't a light saber.

2) It was a candle with an extra long wick.

3) Candles on whateverthehell planet Luke is from are yellow.

Simple possible answer: With those toys, they wanted Luke, Darth, Obi to have distinctly different colored sabers?

If I remember, as I did have one for a while before my brother lost it.... that little wick thing was to pull the lightsaber out.

ETA: for a picture with it retracted a bit...

Here's my geek-guess: I'm pretty sure the company that made those toys saw a rough cut of the movie before it was released, and the visual effects might not have been finished yet. So they might have just guessed.

I remember that the light sabres were the first things I lost. So I used colored cocktail toothpicks - snap off one end and they work great. Thanks, mom.

That's very very possible. But the saber colors for Darth and Obi were right, no? Can't remember now. That crap is nearly 40 years ago

It seems pretty random - compare the colors on the card with the color of the plastic swords:

That's right!

Another thing that pissed me off was Darth's plasticky black cape ripped easily! So my Darth figure was capeless and seemed as if he had been in a fight.

Even when that first line of figures came out, I thought the Luke & Han ones looked weird and didn't look like them. I liked the Stormtrooper, Chewy, and C3PO. Oh, and Greedo. He was a vibrantly colored, durable figure to play with.

Yeah, that's true. Well, you ARE the toymaker after all.

In any case, as I said earlier in this thread, I blame George Lucas for any issue that comes up

I'm probably not going to see the new movie right away. Are we all agreed no spoilers, or should I just avoid the forum between Dec 18 and whenever I decide to see it? I know it's just a movie, but it's not just a movie . . .

No spoilers for ANY film. That's my stance.

There is nothing that pisses me off more than when someone spoils a film that I really want to see. :rage:

Yeah, but just to play it safe I won't be in this thread from the 16th (just in case of some catching any possible early viewing) until when I see it.

This thread is one thing, but what about those new thread titles that give it all away?? "OMG, Darth Vader had another son?? Didn't see that coming!!" or "Luke was cloned but something went wrong with the cloning process and so Luke's evil twin is trying to take over the galaxy!!" etc.

We'll have to trust our moderators and administrators to keep a watchful eye on the Star Wars thread titles, as they do with Rush setlists.

We'll also have to avoid all other TV, radio and internet media, along with not talking to anyone - not even friends and family..... :laughing guy:

A buddy of mine in 1980 gave away the Vader being Luke's father thing before I had a chance to see Empire.

They still haven't found his body.

My asshole brother spoiled The Empire Strikes Back as well as the first Superman film for me. That was almost 40 years ago, and I still haven't forgiven him. Of course, he's estranged from the family, as he's an asshole (but that's a different story.... :eh: ).

Spoiling Empire is enough on its own. Someone on youtube has taken every single existing Force Awakens trailer and arranged the various clips in "chronological order" . . . . sheesh.

I haven't been excited about a new Star Wars flick since 1999.

I haven't LIKED a new Star Wars flick since 1983.

Didn't even like Episode III?

I loved Revenge of the Sith. More than made up for the mediocrity of Episode I and the complete and utter travesty that was Episode II.
