Moonlit Dreamer
I hope there aren’t any similar threads in existence… if so I apologize in advance! Each of us have certain songs that we associate with different chapters of our lives, and specific moments that we regard as significant. Which songs matter the most to you? You are welcome to elaborate on them, or just post a list; it’s entirely your choice. I think it would be wonderful for everyone to share their top twenty songs, and share experiences. I will provide an example for you: 01) Seven Stones - Genesis02) More Fool Me - Genesis03) Time Table - Genesis04) Visions Of Angels - Genesis05) Wallflower - Peter Gabriel06) Change We Must - Jon Anderson07) Yesterday And Today - Yes08) Let’s Pretend - Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe09) Guinevere - Rick Wakeman10) Be Here Now - Ray LaMontagne11) Tears - Rush12) The Garden - Rush13) Middletown Dreams - Rush14) Slipping - Geddy Lee15) The Raven That Refused To Sing - Steven Wilson16) Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd17) Coming Back To Life - Pink Floyd18) Thank You - Led Zeppelin19) The Mind’s Eye - Haken20) It’s In The Rain - Enya Have fun! :DIR
Blue J
That's a wonderful list of songs- some great things in there. Good idea for a thread, too. I know some that I'd put on my list right off the bat, but...yeah, I'll have to roll it around for awhile.
Lost In Xanadu
I have 2 that come to mind immediately... The Pass - RushMurder of One - Counting Crows Both deal with the same topic and not that I have ever considered it, but I have people close to me that have. Luckily none of them ever succeeded, but it is a good "reset button" on priorities.

cygnify
I think I did a thread like this on the Facebook at one time. Anyway, this list would probably change for me each time I did it, but here's a crack at it now. Not necessarily my current favorites, but songs that were icons of an era in my life. It's tough because I could easily select 20 songs that represent High School, or College, Getting Married, Having kids, etc. Thus, I miss alot, but here's the general idea. In chronological order (relative to my life and when the song first owned me): 1.) Shine on You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd (could easily list 19 other Pink Floyd songs...The Wall was the first LP I bought; went on to see Floyd twice.)2.) Tom Sawyer - Rush (could easily list anything from Moving Pictures or ESL - used to stay up to midnight at age 12 to catch Rush ESL on MTV. for real! I'm a lifelong Rush freak)3.) 2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden (Metal phase that I always kept)4.) Master of Puppets - Metallica (New American Metal phase that I always kept)5.) Good Times Bad Times - Led Zeppelin (could easily list every LZ song - in fact, my high school band played every LZ song... personal favorites today: Ten Years Gone & Achilles Last Stand)6.) Close to the Edge - YES (huge love affair with classic Yes among other Prog shaped my overall music taste. Still in my top 6 bands even if I don't care for their recent work...)7.) Force Ten - Rush (I stuck with Rush into the new era, even after filling in their entire back catalog, and would continue to buy every release the day it came out up to the present day!)8.) Welcome to the Jungle - Guns and Roses (not exactly proud of this, but I cannot deny it defined an era. My girlfriend liked them and we saw them live...)9.) Childhood's End - Marillion (Misplaced Childhood was in heavy rotation for a year and a half; later followed by all the Fish era discs. However, I never could make the leap to post-Fish works)10.) We are Finding Who We Are - King's X (one of my favorites for some time, it was an era)11.) Terrapin Station - The Grateful Dead (several high school and college friends fostered my interest in the Dead, along with hour long jams with my band. Saw the Dead more than a Dozen times...)12.) Digging in the Dirt - Peter Gabriel (I had been a fan for years - including early Genesis)13.) Pull Me Under - Dream Theater (Marrying serious chops, metal, and prog this dominated one winter. Followed by other DT releases. Saw & met them many times...)14.) Landslide - Fleetwood Mac (doesn't seem to fit, right? Well, it did represent a rather dark era after college & loss...)15.) Animate - Rush (moving to Florida, a new era of my life, another Rush era.16.) StinkFist - Tool (could easily select something off Undertow, which I got when it was released or Lateralus which dominated me for a solid year)17.) Blackest Eyes - Porcupine Tree (fell in love with PT with In Absentia, and it never died.)18.) Arriving Somewhere, but Not Here - Porcupine Tree (Deadwing cemented PT as one of my all time favs)19.) Insurgentes - Steven Wilson (from his first solo work, very moving & set me up with his solo career)20.) Thin Air - Anathema (different for me and I just love them)21.) Ghost of Perdition - Opeth (Ghost Reveries has to be among my favorites; sick brutal death metal mixed with gorgeous prog elements. Love dynamic stuff.)22.) Clockwork Angels - Rush (yes, they are still there! 44th concert on this tour - I travel with friends and see multiple shows every tour.)23.) Untouchable - Anathema (dominated over the past couple years. Saw them and met them earlier this year!)24.) Devil's Orchard - Opeth (I adjusted to their Post-death metal career and love the retro prog metal approach.)25.) The Lost Song - Anathema (one of two that represent this year!)26.) Eternal Rains Will Come - Opeth (the other of two that represent this year!) Oh shoot - I went over! :D and still somehow managed to miss HUGE influences and iconic songs (like King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu, Billy Cobham, all sorts of jazz fusion, even some pop, The Dixie Dregs, The Aristocrats, Primus, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Living Color, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and all the cover songs that I've had to learn for bands for the past 31 years.....)
cygnify
Oh crap, I forgot Van Halen - they were HUGE in high school. 1984.... Journey, Boston, Kansas, and Triumph were also huge for me at that time and David Lee Roth. Queen. Steve Vai. damn, I can't stop
RushBoingo
I'm sorry, am I supposed to post songs that I associate with my life due to significance of lyric and emotional similarity, or songs that simply were a big part of my life (like for one year I would put on so and so song every day after school).
