Brewers 7

Diamondbacks 5

Top-o-7th, 1 out, 2 runners on base, D-Backs lead 4-3

OK, so Kirk Gibson wants to show his dislike for Ryan Braun (and the Brewers in general) by having his pitcher throw behind Braun on one pitch and then hit Braun in the butt on the next pitch. The umpire ejects pitcher Evan Marshall immediately. As the crowd is giving Marshall a standing ovation, he walks into the Arizona dugout and receives many high-fives from his teammates.

Bases loaded, 1 out.

This brings up the hottest hitter in the NL, Jonathan Lucroy, who promptly takes the first pitch he sees from the new pitcher and CRUSHES IT into the center field seats for a GRAND SLAM. :haz: :haz:

Brewers win, and Kirk Gibson's team is in last place, but he feels like a real man now. He has his priorities in order....

Just saw Kershaw throw a no-hitter and a near perfect game. 15 strikeouts. Frickin Dodgers have 22 no hitters. If anyone is worth $200 million Kershaw is. :notworthy:

That was awesome! :dweez:

And it should have been a perfect game except for that fu***** error. BTW, the third baseman/first baseman made really nice plays to preserve the no hitter.

Yeah,

I had just gotten home from fishing and saw that. It backfired big time!

Brewer pitcher Kyle Lohse (who accidentally hit a D-Back hitter earlier in the game) said it best:

You know what? They won tough-guy points today, but I don't know where the stats are for those. We won the game because of that. It was pretty unnecessary. The ball got away from me. You don't want that to happen. But you're going to play tough-guy stuff? Go ahead. We're winning games.

Los Atléticos on another runner, having taken two from the Yanks, two from Rangers and keeping it going in the opener against the Red Sox. Six of the last eight. :dweez:

45-28 overall? That's the best in the majors! :sundog:

Should the best team in baseball should have more than one player on the All-Star team? The fans may be moving that direction...

Yoenis Cespedes is making the climb towards being an All-Star starter as well. With the power display he put on at last year’s Home Run Derby, couple with the throws he has made to nail people at various bases this season, he has put his name out into the baseball universe. The universe apparently likes what they’ve seen, because Cespedes currently sits 4th among AL outfielders in the voting. Jose Bautista is leading all vote getters, followed by Mike Trout and Melky Cabrera. Cabrera currently has a 342,915 vote lead on Cespedes, but with a few weeks of voting left, the lead is not insurmountable.

The surprise candidate for the Athletics is Derek Norris. Matt Wieters currently leads AL catchers in fan voting, but it was just announced that he will be missing the rest of the season due to Tommy John surgery. That leaves only Brian McCann ahead of Norris, and the vote differential is a measly 2,383 votes. This is completely manageable A’s fans!

No,

It was a routine chopper to Ramirez that he should have made. Here are some highlights.

That's a shame. Reminds me of probably the greatest game ever pitched, by Kerry Wood in 1998. 20Ks, and one scratch infield hit that not only ruined the perfect game, but also the no hitter. The hit is at 38:48 here.

A summary of the strikeouts is here. You'll be in awe of the movement on some of these pitches, especially in the last 20 seconds. It's video game stuff..

Thanks,

If memeory serves. I was watching some of that game. It's a shame about all of his injuries. Looking at that hit a few times. I would have ruled it an error.

It could have easily been ruled an error. If it had happened in the 7th inning it probably would have been. I watched from about the 4th inning on.

I think this was Wood's second or third start. I drafted him in the last round in fantasy baseball that year (no one else had even heard of the guy). And I had put him in my lineup earlier that week. Greatest moment of my fantasy sports career.

It was a shame about his injuries. I think I read somewhere that his HS coach had him throw both ends of a doubleheader.and he threw 175 pitches that day Add to that what has to happen to get that type of motion on a ball and I think he was pretty much doomed.

Brewers score THREE runs on a wild pitch, throwing error by the catcher, and some embarrassing lack of attention to Jean Segura, who kept running all the way home from 1st base.....

Colorado fans were BOOING at 100 decibles.....

A's almost got screwed today on a blown call by the plate Ump. On a sinker, the batter swung and missed (or maybe tipped it), but regardless, the catcher caught it. Except the douche behind the plate calls it tipped and in the dirt. The replay was clear, but this kind of play is non-reviewable (for who knows what reason). Next pitch is in the dirt, Norris loses it and the runner scores from third to tie it up.

A's ended up winning on a 10th inning single by Coco Crisp. Still, why have replay if you can't use it to get the call right?

Man, supporting the Jays has certainly been a roller coaster ride lately. One of the highlights was Friday night - after the 2nd inning, they were losing 8 - 0 , but they mounted an epic comeback and won 14 - 9 in a 4 hour marathon against the Reds. :dweez: But, bad news, Lawrie went on injured list with a hand injury, and Bautista will not be playing for a few games. :( They are opening a homestand tonight and they still lead the AL East. Go Jays Go!!! :cheerleader:
