The general obscurity of my selections is of course relative. I attempted to follow directions and list titles that probably are not on the average TRF member's radar.

Smog - Knock Knock

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Master and Everyone

Idaho - Hearts of Palm

Idaho - Levitate

The Sea and Cake - The Fawn

Codeine - Barely Real

Damien Jurado - Where Shall You Take Me?

Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life

Dave Mason - Alone Together

The Dirty Three - Horse Stories

Fred Neil - s/t

The Hang-Ups - So We Go

Ida - Will You FInd Me?

J. Mascis and The Fog - More Light

Jeremy Enigk - Return of the Frog Queen

Jonathan Wilson - Frankie Ray

Low - The Curtain Hits the Cast

Songs:Ohia/Magnolia Electric Co. - s/t

Magnolia Electric Co. - Nashville Moon

Red House Painters - Ocean Beach

Red House Painters - Rollercoaster

Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway

Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs

Mercury Rev - See You on the Other Side

The Multiple Cat - Golden Apple Hits

Richard Buckner - Devotion and Doubt

Richard Buckner - Since

Ronnie Lane - Anymore for Anymore

Sam Prekop - s/t

Shannon Wright - Flightsafety

Strugglers - You Win

Ted Lucas - s/t

Tim Buckley - Blue Afternoon

Vetiver - Thing of the Past

Townes Van Zandt - Delta Momma Blues

Townes Van Zandt - Our Mother the Mountain

I don't know if I'd call the Dave Mason album that obscure, but otherwise, definitely! I haven't heard of well more than half of those artists/groups.

This time I recognize 3 names: Ronnie Lane, Tim Buckley and Townes Van Zandt.

some good shit gettin named

alphataurus, harmonium, greenslade, prog on f*ckers

Agreed! And Nick Drake too, though he's definitely not obscure.

Maybe I misunderstood the point of this thread, but isn't it for albums that are unknown/obscure to this forum specifically and not in general?

you got it right, but there are actually a surprising amount of nick drake fans on TRF - not tons, but there are a goodly few...

Yep, I'm a HUGE Nick Drake fan. Bryter Layter is one of my five favorite albums of all time.

Oh, cool. That's good to hear. I'm kind of new to his music so maybe I never noticed how many people here like him.

Chroma Key - You Go Now

Is this Kevin Moore´s Chroma Key? I´ve never heard the record, what does it sound like? Does Kev do much in terms of "lead keys", or is is just textures like on OSI?

It's Kevin Moore's solo project. It's mostly textures and samples along with vocals so there are no lead keyboards like in DT. You Go Now is the only CK album that I have but I'm assuming that the other 2 are of a similar style.

nick drake is an interesting case - he floundered in relative obscurity while he was alive and his albums sold poorly. he is far more famous and known now (and his albums have sold far more copies) after he died.

Vandenberg's self titled debut. Bert Heerink's lyrics are cheesy, probably because English isn't his first language, but the album rocks. Burning Heart was a minor hit when the album was released.

Mother's Army's self titled debut. Joe Lynn Turner, Jeff Watson, Bob Daisley and Carmine Appice. What more do you have to know?

And damnit, I typed it wrong as I usually do (because I always search previous threads of mine for new thread answers, and I keep cutting and pasting a typo - by the time I realize it, it's too late to edit!). The album by Daevid Allen is actually called "Now is the Happiest Time of Your Life."

Do you like the album? It's right up there with the best of Gong for me. Also, his album Good Morning is excellent.

Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs

Mercury Rev - See You on the Other Side

Finally someone mentions them here, amazing stuff. All is Dream is like DS Pt 2 so of course essential. I saw them in a small club here on the DS tour. Genius.

Witch Cross - Fit for Fight.

The only album they ever made. I listen to it all the time.

Hey that album has just been newly re-released by Hells Headbangers this week, two days ago! :o Do I need it? :blaze: :guitar:

Holy shit, you weren't joking. And on vinyl too! That stupid cover is gonna look awesome. Ducky, you just made my morning. Of course I'd recommend it.....NWOBHM style, sort of Priest-ish with bad production. I don't know, I always loved it. *goes to order*
