I really can't choose modern Rush over old school Rush, that's just how I am wired.

 

Both albums are EPIC.

 

I would say that "Clockwork Angels" is the band's best album since "Counterparts."

 

I can't go with "2112" as their best album in the Seventies.

 

"2112" saved the band's ass sort of like what "Tommy" did for The Who in 1969.

 

Rush hit their apex in 1978 with "Hemispheres."

 

Now if there was a thread about "Hemispheres" VS. "Clockwork Angels" then you would know my vote!!

One is a very respectable offering from a band that has been making quality music for almost 40 years.

 

The other is the genius that put the band on the map, and set the stage so the band could produce music for almost 40 years.

2112! I would never have known about CA if I hadn't heard 2112 back in 1976, and became a fan, that's the way I think about it.

 

2112 is a classic, not saying that CA won't be, but it is Rush, raw, at their best, for that time period IMHO!

Aside from the "NEW CAR SMELL" (great analogy by the way), my appreciation for 2112 has actually raised in recent years.

 

So this is tough.
