HowItIs
I recently got a bug in my ear (or elsewhere, if you're crude like me) to make a sculpture of the Fountain of Lamneth. I listened to the song, read the lyrics.... but nothing is very specific. So I thought I'd turn to my fellow RUSH fans. Do you see the fountain as a classical, tiered thing, similar to this: http://waterfeatures1.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Fountain-Designs1.jpg Or a more natural-looking formation, like this: http://www.featurepics.com/FI/Thumb300/20101120/Underground-Water-Spring-1708993.jpg Or even one that springs from the "living rock" like this: http://www.igsb.uiowa.edu/Browse/water/Spring.gif Do you see a lot of foliage around it? Trees, shrubs, vines, etc.? No matter what kind I end up with, I know that there is a rock wall next to it (as I see it). I'm interested in what you guys think.... Thanks in advance
LyndseyG
Well, I see something like this: http://waterfeatures1.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Fountain-Designs1.jpg And it's all surrounded with plants, trees and flowers and there are birds and insects. Its sort of half hidden cause it's been there for thousands of years. There's a gravel pathway leading up to it.

BigBob
I always pictured the Fountain as this high spring on top of a large mountain, with lighting and snow storms.
An Enemy Without
The fountain is on one mountain out of a range of gray, rocky mountains. It is the tallest, and not very steep, but there is a sort of plateau with jagged boulders scattered across. No signs of life. The fountain is a mix between carved and natural, like there was already a natural cluster of rocks then a path was carved down them for the water to flow. It is less the umbrella of water you see with regular fountains and more like a stream. However there is apparently very low water pressure because it is little more than a trickle. Your_Lion
QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Mar 23 2012, 08:30 PM) I thought it was a metaphorical fountain. So now all you've got to do is make a metaphorical sculpture

USB Connector
The few times I heard the song I pictured something like this, in a marshland, partially covered in moss. http://i.imgur.com/K0T3H.jpg But whenever I feel like laughing and I see mention of a fountain in literature, I always picture people drinking from one of these: http://www.tellingdad.com/wp-content/uploads/fountainpee.jpg
jnoble
I thought it might look like what the Necromancer was standing on top of on the album cover. More of a waterfall than a proper fountain per-se.

EmotionDetector
All jokes aside, I always figured that the front and back cover of CoS represented the two epics... Front Cover: The Necromancer Back Cover: The Fountain of Lamneth I could be wrong of course!

1 of the 7
The third picture is how I view it - completely natural, with a waterfall and a stream. I'm torn between whether that the subject of the song can see any part of it from afar, or only hears stories about it all his life. I'm guessing the latter. Apollo
It should definitely be all natural.
HowItIs
I've made a sketch to work from. The Fountain will spring from a mountainside, surrounded by trees and foliage. It will cascade down a few pools into a large pool and then into a stream. I will post progress pics if you like or just post the completed sculpture. Thank you all for your input
