hobo73
My husband is very leery of buying tickets to a Malcolmless AC/DC show (we are both of the persuasion that Malcolm=AC/DC), but you bet your bottoms I WILL convince him otherwise.I love Malcolm as much as the next person, but if he goes out of his way to NOT buy AC/DC tickets next time around, he will have one cranky, bitchy, angry wife to deal with LMAO!!!! J2112YYZ
I'm pretty sure the band wouldn't go on unless Malcolm gave his blessing. Didn't Bon's family give their OK to continue the band after he passed away? There might also be a chance that they have shows booked already and can't get out of them and that's why they've got to continue without Malcolm to. I know they don't need the money but they're still losing out a lot of it if they have to cancel shows.

It is cool to see him back there going to town on rhythm. I would think it would be much more problematic seeing them without Angus. He is obviously the most visible and a big part of the entertainment value of the band. If you or someone has never seen them before I would say go either way. It may not be exactly the same but at least when you are old you can say "yes I saw them".. :)
J2112YYZ
Musically, Malcolm is the foundation of the band BUT they can certainly find a suitable replacement for him live. There are plenty of talented guitarist out there who will play the riffs proper and won't put their own spin on them. The AC/DC live show is all about the wacky stage antics of Angus and Brian. Malcolm will be missed but Angus and Brian will more than make up for him not being there. Edited April 23, 2014 by J2112YYZ

A great band like Metallica could play an AC/DC song note for note, and they still wouldn't capture the tension and release that drive the music. There's nothing like it. :fury:

J2112YYZ
I think that sounds better than the studio version. They need to bring back Who Made Who if they tour again. I wonder if Malcolm's nephew is in consideration to replace him if the go back out on the road? Edited April 29, 2014 by J2112YYZ
Rod in Toronto
That version of Who Made Who was awesome! And yeah, if Malcolm´s uncle is available, why not having him with the band again? I read somewhere that he was so good that people barely noticed that Malcolm was missing.

Rod in Toronto
Bring it on! Brian mentioned he suggested to call it "Man Down", but thought it was too depressive considering Malcolm's situation.

Rick N. Backer
I'm going to this tour, in case it's the last one. I haven't seen them since 1981. They haven't changed over the years. Sadly, I have.

Presto-digitation
Source close to the Young family claims that AC/DC's Malcolm Young is now in a full-time nursing care facility suffering from acute Dementia: It may be that dementia is claiming another giant, this time a musical one. Sources connected to the Young family have said AC/DC co-founder, guitarist and songwriter, Malcolm Young, whose retirement from the band was announced on Wednesday, has been moved into fulltime care in a nursing home facility in Sydney's eastern suburbs specialising in dementia. The home is understood to be Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay, the same facility which is also home to Gough Whitlam and, until his recent death, Neville Wran, who was afflicted with dementia in his last years. According to the Young family connection: "If you were in the room with [Malcolm Young] and walked out then came back in one minute later he wouldn't remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short term memory. His wife Linda has put him in full-time care."
J2112YYZ
It's very sad that Malcolm has this. My grandfather had dementia during the last few years of his life and it's just a horrible thing to see a loved one go through that. After a while he would just start to forget to do the basic things we do everyday like getting something to eat or drink or going to the bathroom. Before he died he couldn't do much of anything without assistance. My grandfather was in his late 80s when it started for him. It's always sad when someone gets dementia, especially if you're only in your 60s like Malcolm is.
Cygnus 2112
That is horrible news for everybody in AC/DC and the Young family.
Babycat
Malcolm Young is an incredible man - I wish him all the best. Sad news he's had to retire. Now I've only just read he's got dementia. Poor dude... Ironically, I'd only just bought two CDs - the first in years: Ballbreaker and Black Ice.
Rod in Toronto
That´s really sad...one of the absolute best rhythm guitarrists in the world, if not THE best. There´s not even chance o a farewell tour for him, or even a "here´s hoping for a full recovery". Angus is incredibly brave of carrying on with the bad without his brother, considering the circumstances.
Presto-digitation
I'm not at all a fan of the band, but they seem like really salt-of-the-earth blokes...super cool guys...and this is just terrible. Pretty young to have such an affliction too. I hate that he can't even be in the comfort of his own home with full-time nursing staff. All of that work to enjoy your later years and now this.... Feel terrible for him and his family.
WorkingAllTheTime
Dementia is a horrible thing.... it look my grandfather. In all honesty, we were relieved when he was finally able to leave us. Knowing he had peace was so much better than the reality that such a brilliant, thoughtful, and caring man had been replaced by confusion and angst. It is an awful place to be to feel that way, but it is a real place. My heart goes out to Malcolm's family and the band because I am sure, although they won't likely publicly admit it, they have had similar thoughts and emotions. As for AC/DC moving on.... I get it. They moved on after Bon Scott passed (helped along by the fact Bon's family supported it). Malcolm, not Angus, founded the band. Although Angus is the face of AC/DC, Malcolm is it's soul. I don't have any doubt that Malcolm would be okay with their moving forward, especially since Stevie is the "replacement". Stevie filled in for Malcom in 1988, when Malcolm was dealing with alcohol issues (which, sadly, is also a likely factor in his dementia). Stevie is literally family. Stevie also looks and sounds a lot like Malcolm. Malcolm won't physically be there, but I think he will always be there in spirit.
