Monster

I really find Charlize Theron an annoying actress. Something about her in every role I have seen her in has left me cold, and she was shockingly miscast in Prometheus (why did that film need a bona fides beauty queen? It smacked of Hollywood whereas Alien felt real).

Then I saw this. And I was blown away and actually on the verge of tears after witnessing perhaps the bravest acting I have ever seen.

Was it even acting? I swear...I just saw a movie where Aileen Wuornos got to play herself.

Devastated. She did despicable things, and I am torn about a film that makes me feel sorry for a serial killer, but I do believe in the worst of humanity there is a glimmer of light. But then again, this is a performance, not real life.

But it sure did feel like reality.

10/10

Side note: Christina Ricci did brilliantly as well.

Am looking at these two pics as I go up some escalators in one of those giganto 7 story bookstores they have out here...as I saw the western pics the Sergio Leone "Dollars" music starts playing. Thought it was funny. Never heard it played anywhere other than from my own tv. Not exactly sure why it's even on. Oh yeah, Japan. Nothing makes sense but it's there regardless. Left turn and there's a girl in full on Anime gear and pink hair.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Can you believe I actually took a girl to see Monster on our first date????

Oh man!!! I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and think you didn't know much about the movie before going to the cinema.

Great film though.

I didn't know a thing about it. The date went well and we were together for a few months, but it didn't work out well after that. She was the type of girl that liked to make a scene...I heard she dumped a bottle of glass in her next boyfriend's head at a restaurant. That's the problemas with crazy girls like that: great sex, but aside from that, they're VERY hard to vê around.

 Reminds me of a friend of mine whose crazy gf dumped a pint of beer in his face at a bar. Apparently, she was great in the sack too. That guy put up with 2.5 years of her craziness though just because of...

I meant "glass of Wine" in my post, but you did get what I meant. Wow, two years of craziness...I couldn't handle more than a couple of months.

Yup, I got it.

Yeah, 2+ years. That buddy was the kind of guy who was beyond a healthy amount of horny (which is a lot coming from me...hehe) + he seemed to think that he always needed a gf. Good guy but yeah, that's a lengthy amount of torture to endure.

Ghost World.

Quirky little dark comedy starring Thora Birch, Scarlet Johannson, and Steve Buscemi. Good overall but the mildly ambiguous ending left me not completely satisfied.

Grade: B-

Might watch this one...intriguing cast!

Yup, it was pretty much the only reason I watched it. Thora Birch does well as a character not too different (though not at all a knockoff) from the one she portrayed in American Beauty.

No. They're usually not unfortunately. But it doesn't hurt to check given the extremely short skirts and high stockings worn.

I love that movie. Very quirky, and Buschemi does a good job. I can actually relate to him in many ways.

I'm trying to plow my way through the remake of Total Recall. It's a chore, so far.

I got bored about half an hour in and had to turn it off.
