This is an entertaining thriller with a daft plot. In this film Van Damme plays a psycho killer (in a curly wig), and he also plays the killer's clone (without the wig - maybe so we can tell them apart). The clone has been created by some government agency and this sci-fi bit of the film is very ropey with little or no explanation of how they did it, or even why, with no scientists or doctors to explain anything. Anyway meanwhile we have Michael Rooker playing the obligatory obsessed cop nemesis who is trying to catch the killer and that's all you really have. Van Damme is quite good in both roles but the clone role is probably where he earns his corn, he plays him like a kind of child-like rainman made from the killer's DNA, with some kind of psychic link to him. Outside of this twist the film plays out like a pretty standard cop vs killer cat and mouse thriller. The ending is almost dafter than the plot itself as the clone ends up running off with a hooker he met earlier in the film... All in all a pretty good time waster which is good for a few laughs...

Saw this one a few years back, and I enjoyed it

Yeah it's pretty entertaining and Michael Rooker is really good in his role which adds weight to the film.

I love the new Magneto and Prof X. Hopefully they'll stick with this cast and just drop the ones from the original trilogy (except Hugh Jackman because he doesn't age). Excellent movie which gloriously flips the bird to X3.

Van Damme only has a very small role in this film, which is very good martial arts/gangster film. It's chock full of action, great fights, shootouts and verbal confrontations and it plays out very like a 60's spaghetti western even though it's set in the present day. The main character is played by MMA star (there's loads of MMA stars in this) Cung Le, a mysterious man called Hong who is a kind of Kwai Chang Caine figure. Van Damme only appears in flashback as a kind of Master Po kung fu mentor who trained Hong in prison. We several scenes where he learns his techniques and philosophies, just like in the famous 70's TV show Kung Fu that I've already referenced. In the present day he arrives in this town and goes up against various drug gangs and crooked cops. The man who steals the film is Peter Weller as Mr V a Mr Big-style drug overlord who runs all the action in the town, including the police. Peter Weller is one of those actors who has really come on a bundle as he's got older, especially excelling as hard-assed bad guys. And here he is again totally owning the show, every line is perfectly delivered with his voice oozing charisma. All in a very good action flick, not much Van Damme but it doesn't matter as Cung Le is really excellent as Hong.

This is a political action thriller involving terrorist attacks. I found this a fairly dull experience, even though there's plenty of action. It boasts a very generic story with not much in the way of suspense and characters you don't care about. The film just rolls along and seems to last a lot longer than 90 minutes, I kept looking at how long was left.

That's a good film actually, the best thing I've seen Gosling in. It's very reminiscent of the 70's flick "The Driver" starring another Ryan, Ryan O'Neal and Bruce Dern. In fact the characters the Ryans play in these films are almost identical in demeanor, outlook, philosophy and they way they deal with obstacles in their path.

Only watched these because I saw them in the pound shop, and I thought, for £1, why not?

I thought it was alright for a teen horror, which generally aren't my thing, but I thought the concept was pretty cool (apparently, it was based on an unmade X-Files script...which I could imagining working well)

I thought the teacher had the coolest death.

I actually preferred this to the first, because there was a slight touch of humour to the deaths, due to misdirection and being more convoluted...almost like death was Wile E. Coyote...except successful.

My main complaint is that Sarah Carter died waaaaaaaay too soon.

 

Damn...there are 5 these things...and probably more on the way...I don't know if I can be bothered watching any more...unless I can get them for £1 again

Great soundtrack and score by Martinez as well. Kind of reminds me if Tangerine Dream scores from the 80s especially Thief.

The Driver is a very good film, probably the best film O'Neal ever did, certainly the most memorable. Bruce Dern almost steals the show as the taunting, in-your-face cop and there's a really hot actress in it too, Isabelle Adjani as Ryan's girlfriend.

as you could probably guess, the plot isn't even slightly altered throughout all 5.

Watching right now, actually. I'm enjoying the atmosphere, so far. Fantasy, with lots of foreshadowing. Love the corniness (karate release of the mice :D )

In this one Van Damme plays an eccentric drug-smuggling vegan with wild hair who begins the film dressed up as a Mountie. Van Damme is getting pretty good at playing these more charismatic villains.

This film reminds me of that film Assassins with Stalone and Antonio Banderas from the 90's, only with a much weaker script and a much lower budget. The cast is inferior too apart from Van Damme who is pretty solid.

It is labelled as an horror but really, it's barely a ghost story and even the ghost angle is so marginal you could even miss it. It's a valid portrait of poor people and prejudices in Peking, but really apart from that is a lame, lame, lame movie. Good only if you want to see a doomed love story between a geeky retarded boy and a hairdresser (which, you know, might be what you're into).

Well, I'm also for the "so bad it's good" kind of horror movie... But really, growing up on Hammer, cold war S/F, low budget, japanise monsters, B-movies, a little Dario Argento (of whom I am not really a fan), you name it, now it's all torture porn around me. But I soldier on.
