Not really into rap but man this movie was excellent.

Good stuff. Actually, I thought Hardy was better than DiCaprio. Anyway...

The Room...

I'm often a bit critical of child actors but the kid in this did very well. Touching moving.

Segue, I think you'd like this one.

The 5th Wave

Sci fi film with a good idea that went nowhere.

Think Hunger Games meets Divergent meets Independence Day with a hot teenage blonde chick trying to save the earth.

42 minutes of pretty good film, and 1 hour and 10 minutes of, come on dudes, we have seen this before

On the bright side Ray Donovan and Peter from Office Space are in it

Rating is 2 pieces of :pizza: :pizza: out of 5

The books apparently are fantastic. And the fans are begging for a remake already so that should give you an idea of what a disappointment this film has been for many.

I really want to see The Room! I keep forgetting too!

The other too as well, I want to get to them (but for some reason not bothered if I don't).

In my case, I couldn't have seen any of them because Compton was never released out here (and probably never will be), Revenant hasn't opened here yet (maybe the end of this month it will?), and The Room JUST started last weekend (while I was abroad).

Where do you live again? The Philippines? I can't remember...

But it must suck!

Sometimes in the UK we have to wait months for US TV shows to come to the UK. Or we are a couple of weeks behind and have to avoid spoilers everywhere.

Japan. It does suck for a movie lover like me! And I have to avoid spoilers even more so than you guys. Some movies are NEVER released here or are up to a year or more late. Hell, I watched The Terminal (with Tom Hanks) on DVD stateside before it was released in cinemas out here. This isn't too uncommon. Anything massive like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter were/are released on time though.

I'm always cautious when I'm in certain threads on TRF. Example: I NEVER go to the Walking Dead thread. I love the show and would love to chat about it but I don't pay for that satellite channel to get it so I'm constantly behind. If I go in that thread it'd definitely ruin much of it for me.

Do you mean movie box sets? The region code is different so there's that...and a DVD with our region specific code wouldn't be available until AFTER it hit theaters here (IF it were released here at all).

Example: I've never seen it but Ghost Rider 2 was released here in cinemas a full year after it was stateside. The DVD wasn't released here until maybe 4-6 months after that.

I'm not sure but I assume the release of movies here is connected with production companies. I remember the crappy Amazing Spidey Garfield flicks, for example, were released here a few days to a week BEFORE they were stateside...maybe because those two flicks were deeply connected to Sony? My guess anyway.

Forgot I also caught this...

Was like a combo of Rudy and Rocky though I'd rate it much closer to the former than the latter. If you like the NFL and grew up playing American football then you'll probably like this. l did.

Yeah, those region free DVDs follow the same conditions I've stated already. So, for example, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to get a region free Thor 2 DVD until after it was released in cinemas here. [Thor 2 was released about 6 months late]. BUT I think it COULD happen where I could get that region free DVD just a month after it's cinematic release here. It's complicated for sure but in any case I'm seeing very very few movies before the west but I'm watching loads of flicks later or MUCH later than you guys. Hell, I saw Django Unchained sitting on the shelf at my DVD rental shop a few months ago in the NEW section despite it being released stateside theatrically in 2012. What the hell?!

I HAVE gone mad!

Japanese movie making...not really. Much of it is formulaic like general Hollywood stuff...BUT many times it seems they try to emulate those formulaic Hollywood flicks AND shows (which means it's even worse IMHO) because they believe that's what the public wants. Maybe they're right? In any case, I don't like J-films or shows...with the exception of some Miyazaki and some rare item now and then.

I said box sets...sorry I meant dvd/blu ray. How annoying! I have a few imported Japanese movies. Or did have. They were region free...

I would go mad...do you enjoy Japanese movie making?

Ran into some great movies on some long haul flights this week...

Not really into rap but man this movie was excellent.

Grade: A

Good stuff. Actually, I thought Hardy was better than DiCaprio. Anyway...

Grade: A

The Room...

I'm often a bit critical of child actors but the kid in this did very well. Touching moving.

Segue, I think you'd like this one.

Grade: A

I know haha!

I like some but I am not keen on most horror...I would love a taste of real Japanese culture in Japanese film. Something like the Ghibli film Only Yesterday but live action.

My parents got me started on foreign films ( .. foreign to a Yankee ) when I was a kid

I can remember them watching a real slow moving one called Woman In The Dunes .. It was slow, but something fascinated me about it as a kid ... I love it now ... Classic

I love foreign films that immerse me in everyday culture.

I have yet to see a Japanese film that gives me a glimpse of normal, day to day life without fantastical elements or martial arts.

Aside from Only Yesterday, which is an adult drama but animated.

Can't tell you one.

But here's a fairly typical J-family's day----> dad leaves the house for work around 7am and gets home sometime between 8-10pm. He probably never cooks and does few, if any, household chores. After school, kids often go to their club activities (usually sticking to one their entire high school life even if they dislike it) then juku (extra classes not connected with their school) to try and prep themselves for the dreaded college entrance exams. Kids aren't home from maybe 7:30am to [also] 8-10pm. I can't say they're actually studying hard but they're certainly out of the house most of the time. Mothers do virtually all the housework and handle the money. She's the glue. Dad may make the money but he's pretty clueless about family stuff.

Trains are packed beyond anything safe. Briefcase in your back, elbows scraping yours, chest on chest, bad breath, body odor, funk, spunk, Buddhist monks, it's all there.

Any vacation longer than 4 days is considered long and bringing back souvenirs for co-workers (even ones you despise) is expected. I know: my wife just bought souvenirs for EXACTLY 40 of her co-workers...she only actually likes 2 of them.

It's all about saving face and not looking bad. Things may look serene and pretty on the outside but on the inside who knows what's going on...it's Japan so there's a decent chance that you'll never know what someone truly thinks. And no, it's not like anything comparable in the west.

Lost In Translation was a perfect representation of what you'd experience as a short-term foreigner out here.

Note: I don't think I'm actually ripping Japan. But I do think this may be the most honest answer you'll get from someone's that's lived here for any substantial amount of time.

P.S. "Love Hotels". Go look that up. And no, they're not brothels.
