JohnnyBlaze
Looks like a powerhouse cast. Oliver Reed always did seem like a pirate (I'm assuming he was one). Was it any good?

I think the only thing things i didn't find annoying were that racing snail + Rock giant on the bicycle. ;)Yeah, I couldn't find Bastian or Atreyu likable. And when I hear that song I'd like to jump off that Springer Spaniel-looking Luck Dragon while its in flight. "Bastian! Say my name!" ...Even as an 11 year old kid watching that back in the 80s, I hated that line.

treeduck
Looks like a powerhouse cast. Oliver Reed always did seem like a pirate (I'm assuming he was one). Was it any good?It was pretty good yeah. It was a solid production, all the actors delivered, particularly Oliver Reed as Billy Bones and Christopher Lee as a totally scary Blind Pugh, he was unrecognisable both his look and his voice. Also were good were Julian Glover, a young Christian Bale as Jim Hawkins, Charlton Heston as Long John Silver and the guy who played the ship's captain as well plus others. The music didn't work for me, the Chieftains doing a monotonous Celtic jig in dramatic pauses that failed to give the atmosphere, drama and storytelling a proper orchestral score would have done. The was a slight lack of atmosphere at times but you can't really go wrong with this story, all in all it was good a 7/10.

JohnnyBlaze
Shining (Kubrick). Has anyone seen the more recent version (mini-series)?Was that the one with the Wings guy? If so, I didn't watch it because of that. I like him but it's hard to think of him as anything but Brian Hackett.

treeduck
Shining (Kubrick). Has anyone seen the more recent version (mini-series)?I saw it back when it first came out. King wrote the script and attempted to make it more like the book but it comes over lacking atmosphere, is very dry, it just doesn't translate to the screen very well. Kubrick's version may not sit well with SK but it's about 10 times better than his mini series version.
