No that's one I've not seen I don't think. I'll have to see if I can watch that one. Starring Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasance right? It's possible I may have seen it long ago, but it will have been like the 70s or early 80s. I'll see if I can find that somewhere...

This has to be the worst thing Christopher Lee's ever been involved with. Lee aside the acting is hilariously bad, the special effects are shockingly incompetent, each scene of violent action induces great guffaws of laughter, it's comedy gold!  laugh.gif It appears to be edited to make the whole thing look ridiculous too. The ending credits made me giggle...

Oh god, this f***ing movie. laugh.gif rofl3.gif Anyone who wants to get into film editing should watch this masterpiece. And that song! Howling! rofl3.gif

They should've kept the original title though:

A great movie stephen. It has two versions, the directors cut--which i recommend. It was ahead of its time. The new version is so amazing. When do you last see it?

saw it around 93/95. Was unaware of there being 2 versions, what's the fundamental difference?

Lucas expands the film imagery with an overhaul, though very well done. Walter Murch the sound editor does as well. CGI enhances the undergroudn world and some additonal scenes are in there.

The DVD is quite cheap. Director's cut has an additional DVD with a feature of Zoetrope's beginning, since the film is circa 71 I think. Fantastic insights, as Francis Ford Coppola's company produced the film. Also, there is a feature called the "masters" class with Walt Murch talking how he did this incredible sound job. The DVD commentaries are very intersting as well.

At the time, there were no sci fi films that approached 2001's greatness visually, THX 1138 does just that.

Though not bad, I heard this was kind of a letdown. Was it?

Well back in the Spring when the Prometheus marketing scheme went into overdrive they were trying to convince everyone that it was the Alien version of 2001, or the 2001 version of Alien. Almost like this film was going to reveal the secrets of life, death and the universe. A superior intellectual sci fi film. But of course that was a total con, it's more of standard sci fi/horror/adventure picture, a good one though.

Luckily I'd already heard some disappointing reactions to this so I didn't have crazy expectations by the time I finally watched it. I watched just expecting a fun sci fi flick. And that's what you get really. It's not as good as the original Alien or Aliens. They claim to be trying to move away from that and that Prometheus isn't a Xenomorph movie. In the end though you get the same kinds of things happening, xenomorph or not. It's enjoyable though with lots of crazy alien-style gruesome moments.

The cast is pretty good, I really like the female lead, forget her name, and Michael Fassbender. Guy Pierce is unrecognizable as a wizened old man and Charlize is a total hot bitch!

The look of the film is great, great sets, great vehicles, great ships, great special effects, weird creatures, the planet looks spectacular and so on. The story is interesting and builds up well but it seems like it creates a lot more questions than answers and becomes like a set-up for a sequel, which I think they're going to be doing with Ridley Scott on board again.

One thing that came to mind as I watched it, was Ridley saying that this prequel was superior to the Alien sequels and the Alien v Predator stuff, and yet you kind of get an Alien v Predator kind of moment towards the end. That's not a bad thing though actually in this case.

All in all a pretty good sci-fi/horror flick but nothing ground breaking and it's no match for the first two Alien flicks.

hmm...well, movie hype doesn't affect me since there IS NO hype out here for almost all movies...and I'm not the type to scour the internet for movie info. May check it out but I'm not too fussed. I like the actors I recognize (Pierce, Fassbender, and hot Charlize) though

If you get the chance it's definitely worth seeing.
