Alexmai
QUOTE (sonicjams @ Oct 15 2011, 08:37 AM) havent liked a KISS record since love gun. and for the record, caress of steel is awesome i think, it's just a bit silly and over-the-top In my opinion, Kiss' Sonic Boom (2009) is better than Love Gun. It's "no filler, all killer" while LG has 2-3 of them...
sco703
QUOTE (trenken @ Oct 14 2011, 05:15 AM) QUOTE (HereAgain @ Oct 13 2011, 11:30 PM) I think it's hilarious how Rush showed Paul Stanley the early tapes of Caress and he just couldn't get into it. Is this why Kiss attempted The Elder? Honestly not too many really liked that album when it came out. They sid in the doc that they werent even sure if they 'got it', meaning they were lost and didnt know what the hell they were trying to do. It was a commercial failure, Rush was playing very small places, sometimes only maybe 30 people showing up. They called it the down the tubes tour. I remember reading an interview a while back about during the writing of that album they went to see Yes, and became very disheartened at how much better than Rush they were. That might have effected the quality of the album, with their morale being at rock bottom. Geddy has even said I think right before the VT tour that its painful for him to listen to that album, that is hasnt aged well at all, which I totally agree with. It sounds really goofy to me now. I actually like Caress of Steel. At least I really like The Necromancer. I think it's a solid song. The music is gorgeous. I'm not crazy about ITIGB, but the rest aren't bad, and I still need to digest TFOL. But the necromancer is a good song IMO. I can understand everyone thinking it's unfocused and odd, because it is, but maybe that's why I like it to some degree. It's nowhere near their best stuff of course, but it isn't horrible. Steel Rat
COS is the album that got my Girlfriend into Rush. She'd heard GUP, PoW, FTK, but Rush never really took for her until she heard Fountain of Lamneth. I can't understand why it's not everyone's favorite Rush song, but that's just me. kevorkazito
On 'Fountain of Lamneth', we can witness why Geddy says that he was melody man of the group. His songs 'Panacea' and 'Bacchus Plateau' are such beauuuuutiful songs. I really like them. Bacchus is another word for Dionysis; what a premonition of what was to come. COS is one of my favorites in the whole catalog. Alex's 335 (used on all songs except for 'Lakeside Park' and 'Panacea') into the Fender Super Reverb has a heavenly timbre. Sure, COS is an oddball but it's the DNA of their music evolving, and wonderful in its own way.

Those are way more repetitive musically. Lyrically, they are pretty silly as well.

greg2112
Caress is a classic. Top 5 Rush albums for me. Regarding the Elder- there's some pretty good stuff on that album. Not as bad as people make it out to be.

Astromancer
Geddy's opening vocals in The Necromancer are enough for me to love that entire album. Jaminbenb
Paul probably didn't like it because it wasn't "commercial" enough! Kiss was nothing more than a marketing ploy! In fact Gene is STILL marketing crap with their logo's and likenesses! I had a friend play me Alive once and I thought it was a joke! All that posing they did and the breathing fire and crazieness didn't lend well to a "live" album!
