  1. I love Geddy, but listening to his voice now, he really couldn't hit those high notes for an entire song. Just not possible.
  2. One time I listened to Billy Joel's entire catalogue over the course of a few days. That did get a bit tiring. I can't even imagine doing Rush right now. I think I'd have to deprive myself of them for a while to be able to do their entire catalogue.
  3. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this band, listening to Mastodon is one of the greatest things that you can do for yourself. They are one of my all-time favorite artists, and are unlike ANYONE in music. That's what makes them so amazing, they're uniqueness. They don't sound like anything I've ever heard before. So, do yourself a favor and pick up their album Crack the Skye. Then go from there. I think that The Hunter, while good, is not the best starting platform in order to be reeled in.
  4. The Pass was stuck in my head ALL DAY two days ago. I know that's not today, but the intensity of it is enough to warrant a posting tonight.
  5. QUOTE (Gilbertk @ Dec 15 2011, 07:02 PM) So I've started dating this girl.. and most girls in the world (roughly 99.999%) prefer pretty much everything else over Rush. Well I did the unthinkable on our first date and turned control of my iPod over to her while I was driving. What did she put on? John Mayer? Lady Gaga? Taylor Swift? Nay. Fly By Night followed by The Body Electric. Gentlemen, I am in love. Can we share?
  6. I doubt it was because she was singing along. Why would a band be mad at a fan for singing along? Probably was a flasher or something.
  7. Sorry, I can't see spending 12.50 for a one time viewing when I can use that 12.50 towards the purchase of the DVD.

    Garden Road

This is nothing special to my ears.
  9. Shouldn't a live album sound 'live'? I mean, what's the point of a live album if it's going to sound just like a studio recording? I think it should be natural. If I want to hear perfect interpretations of the songs I'll listen to the studio versions.
  10. Besides making money, what's the point of these sets? Is there anything actually special about them, besides the fact that they're Rush albums?
  11. It's stupid, but it is what it is. He may not even have heard of the band before anyways. Usually bands will change their names if they know of another band with the same name, but I guess that's not always the case. Pink Floyd went by a bunch of other names, and were at one point The Tea Set. Then they came into contact with a band named The Tea Set and changed their name eventually to Pink Floyd.

    5 songs live

I'm sure a topic like this has probably been done before, but hey, I'm just a singer. Anyways, for those of us who've been lucky enough to have seen Rush, I'm sure we've seen some of our favorite Rush songs live. That's fine. But I want to ask everybody, what are the 5 Rush songs that you'd love to see live? (and you can put in songs you've already seen) My 5: The Camera Eye Subdivisions Afterimage Xanadu Cygnus X-1
  13. I don't find the synths overpowering at all. I think they sound good. It's a very 80's esque touch, but I think it sounds good.
  14. The ONLY way that Rush could MAYBE do a Yankee Stadium type of show is if they were filming for a live DVD, only played one show in NY, and didn't play any shows in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Connecticut. But even then, how many other people would be die hard enough to drive to NY?
  15. QUOTE (presto123 @ Oct 17 2011, 09:37 PM) U2 are the most over-rated band in the history of rock. I even like them but I still think that's a fact. Agreed. And as far as a Rush stadium show goes, as cool as it would be, I doubt they could sell out a stadium. It would have to be a one off show of some sort, not part of a tour. Even that probably couldn't do it. But I think an arena is big enough.
  16. QUOTE (trenken @ Oct 14 2011, 05:15 AM) QUOTE (HereAgain @ Oct 13 2011, 11:30 PM) I think it's hilarious how Rush showed Paul Stanley the early tapes of Caress and he just couldn't get into it. Is this why Kiss attempted The Elder? Honestly not too many really liked that album when it came out. They sid in the doc that they werent even sure if they 'got it', meaning they were lost and didnt know what the hell they were trying to do. It was a commercial failure, Rush was playing very small places, sometimes only maybe 30 people showing up. They called it the down the tubes tour. I remember reading an interview a while back about during the writing of that album they went to see Yes, and became very disheartened at how much better than Rush they were. That might have effected the quality of the album, with their morale being at rock bottom. Geddy has even said I think right before the VT tour that its painful for him to listen to that album, that is hasnt aged well at all, which I totally agree with. It sounds really goofy to me now. I actually like Caress of Steel. At least I really like The Necromancer. I think it's a solid song. The music is gorgeous. I'm not crazy about ITIGB, but the rest aren't bad, and I still need to digest TFOL. But the necromancer is a good song IMO. I can understand everyone thinking it's unfocused and odd, because it is, but maybe that's why I like it to some degree. It's nowhere near their best stuff of course, but it isn't horrible.
  17. At least he was having fun. Sure it might not be the coolest look. He looks like a boss on Exit Stage Left.
  18. The fact that they're still together and touring after all these years is amazing in its own right. They deserve to retire and enjoy the rest of their lives. It will be sad, but it's probably for the best that they retire. At least I got to see them.
  19. They're not complicated or over the top by any means. But they sound nice, and I kinda dig them I guess. You know, there is no safe seat at the feast. Guaranteed. They're all dangerous seats.
