I'm listening to a best-of by The Replacements for the first time, and I think I've found another great band. biggrin.gif

Let...It...Be...

The tracks on the compilation that came from Let it Be and Tim were the ones I enjoyed the most. I'll look into getting those two records, but it might be a while... I'd like to put a dent in my library and listen to some more music that I haven't listened to in a while. Not to worry, I'll spend some more time getting familiar with this compilation like I did with the Morrissey compilation that I have.

Mozart's Requiem is so wildly different from his other/earlier works, most of which are too classical for my tastes and I consider to be somewhat shallow and superficial. To hear the Requiem played by a period orchestra (with period instruments) is quite an experience too -- for anyone whos interested, the recording i'm listening to is the Boston Baroque/Martin Pearlman 1995 recording. This is how Mozart had imagined the work being played, I believe.

>ride to Augusta State for college orientation

>decide to put on The Chronic by Dr. Dre

>I'm a white kid in Toyota Corolla riding around listening to Dre on crappy iPod speakers

>nonetheless, shit was so cash

I felt awesome doing that. Can't wait to get my own car and a good stereo so I can drive around and do this laugh.gif

I love the electric piano opening to 'Sheep' by Pink Floyd. The tremolo gives me shivers.

'The Great Gig in the Sky' has got to be the most awe-inspiring piece of music I have ever had the pleasure to learn.

Incredible performance by Clare Torry. Wow!! yes.gif

Totally! Learning the piano part for the vocal solo is fun too.

80's King Crimson, while pretty good, just has such an overwhelming cheesiness to it that I cannot rate it anywhere close to their 70's output. The music isn't bad by any means, but a lot of it sounds like some goofy disco, almost spoken word vocal, porn film music.

The new live album from Green Day is pretty awesome. Pretty good setlist, too, it represents every album but Warning, which sucks, but it's nice to see the first two albums get some love.

New Green Day > OLD old Green Day >>>>> middle Green Day

Anyone who has not heard the spectacular music of Mogwai needs to add the albums Come On Die Young and Happy Songs for Happy People to their music library. Right now.

Sgt. Pepper is a great album, no doubt about it, but Revolver and the White Album knock it flat on its ass. And I say this as someone who's loved the Beatles her whole life.

I don't see why Daft Punk fans complain about Human After All so much. There are tracks on Homework and the Tron: Legacy soundtrack that are way worse than anything on HAA.

Ray Davies is a better songwriter than Pete Townshend. Taking this one step further, the Kinks were a better all-around group than the Who, though I concede the Who had the better singer and bassist. Don't get me wrong, I love the Who, but I connect with the Brothers Davies & Co. more.

I personally think that The White Album could have been much shorter, and maybe not a double album. There's a lot of tracks on there that don't do anything for me, but then again, there's a lot of excellent songs. Revolver is good, but Sgt. Pepper is better imo. No other album competes with Abbey Road. That album is perfection from start to finish. I'd love to have seen what The Beatles would have done after that if they didn't break up.
