yyz311 Posted May 4, 2007 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Reading this thread, and others, has made me contemplate what I enjoy about Rush. It also makes me appreciate difference of opinion. I can't believe that "theredtamasrule" thinks Second Nature is bottom of the barrel. That is one of my favorite tracks. In fact, other songs that people despise are at the top of my list - Grand Designs, Lakeside Park, Beneath Between Behind, the Camera Eye (I can't believe this is the least favorite track for some off of MP). My least favorite, Scars, Time Stand Still, and Vital Signs, are favorites for others. As for albums, my favorites are Hemispheres, Presto and Hold Your Fire. Some here can't stand Presto and HYF. To get to my point, I think this is what makes Rush so great. Although they appeal to a smaller audience than most bands, their music is diverse enough that there are vast preferences within the fanbase. Each of us is able to find something that we relate to, find beauty in the art that Rush is able to produce, and let it touch us in one form or another. This is what makes Rush. They always push the envelope. They challenge us to dissect the music, broaden our understanding, and at times take us to places musically that we weren't comfortable with before. If Rush's music wasn't this way, they'd just be another pop band. Other people can have their one hit wonders, boy bands and wanna be divas. I prefer Rush. Yeah, we may disagree on which album is better, or which track is their weakest. But at least we can all agree that Rush is our favorite band. Isn't that all that matters? trenken Posted May 4, 2007 Share Posted May 4, 2007 This band has covered so many styles that naturally people are going to have greatly varied opinions. I love Second Nature. IMHO, despite the abundance of sometimes corny lyrical content, the ONLY bad Rush songs are Tai Shan, Dog Years, I Think I'm Going Bald!and Rivendell.
