What is the best Rush song ever?

We all know picking one is near impossible....but I went with:

 

 

The Spirit of Radio.

 

 

The sheer energy from the legendary opening riff to the amazing group intro, the fist pumping verse music (all this machinery making modern music...). The hand clapping Chorus...the awesome bridge and jam leading into it....and the big rip roaring wah wah guitar solo....this song has it all.

 

And live.....it always is a major treat. This song is full on assault of Prog/Rock/Pop all in a nice 5 minute jam.

 

The perfect Rush song.

I voted for Prime Mover because it's awesome and it didn't have a vote yet. How can you pick just one? Depending on my mood I could have chosen Presto, Natural Science, Middletown Dreams, Everyday Glory, Available Light, Earthshine, Caravan... just depends. I have a lot of favorites.

 

I'd never be in a mood to pick Tom Sawyer, though. Good song - great song, even - but overrated nonetheless. They've done better.

Yes, I did indeed click for "2112". It was a really difficult decision, kind of like choosing what ice cream you want at Goodrich or where you're going for college (seriously, there are so many ice cream flavours. it's ridiculous). I tried to go with "Well, what's overall most inspiring, most musically interesting, most varied, and really feels like Rush." I'm writing an entire novel inspired by "2112" (so obviously I can listen to it looping forever) and I thought it was only right I go with that one.

 

There are SO MANY amazing songs. If I could, I would've picked just about every song here in this poll.

"Freewill" is the one song that I wanted to see perform live. Hence it got my vote in this poll. But...

 

"Limelight" is an extremely close second.

 

"The Pass" is the only one that brings tears to my eyes.

 

"Xanadu" is just plain cool.

A couple of months ago I went with Middletown Dreams. Now I wish I'd vote Hemispheres or Fountain Of Lamneth.

All of the songs in double digits (and a few others) make my Top 10 pretty consistently. But my vote had to go to La Villa Strangiato. It is complex, multi-textured and simply brilliant. I love it, now and always.

It's interesting that Rush's highest charting song, New World Man, has exactly zero votes (out of approximately 550 votes to date).

 

I voted for Natural Science but there were about 10 other contenders.

Almost impossible to pick a favourite as there are so many great tracks.

 

Of the sub 6 minutes songs I would have to go for Limelight with The Pass and Mission not far behind.

 

Of the epic longer songs it just has to be Xanadu.

 

I will never forget seeing this on TV with the double necks in all their glory !

Good point. I did not think of breaking them down by category. Epics, long, and short. That gives me three choices.

For me it usually varies from day to day, but 2112 is ALWAYS in my top 3.
