I think I'm laughing a bit too hard at the fact that Book II has gotten so many votes.

See, this is why I come to this forum

Best Rush song...easily 2112. That broke barriers for the world of music and for them as a band. From that point on they not only knew they could write up to twenty minute epics with amazing lyrics/story-telling, but that the world WANTED them to. That song saved their career, and still acts as the best example of basic basic basic Rush.

Although my favorite is still Cygnus X-1 Book One. ;)

I'm going to go with Roll The Bones, since that is the song that got me into Rush (I doubt many people got into them through that song). My Dad lent me his new Snakes & Arrows album in 2007, I tried it, and I hated it (now I love it of course), so he then lent me his Roll The Bones album 3 years later, and I quite enjoyed that. For some reason I didn't try to explore the rest of their work, but since Clockwork Angels (unbelievable album) came out, I have been doing, and they're by far and away my favourite band now.

I could never answer this question. My tastes change from day to day, including my taste in Rush eras and albums.

For now I could say 2112. For me its just so full of emotion. I find it peculiarly intamate, especially towards the end. I can't explain how I feel, but it touches me deeply. Weird...I'm not even a fan of mahoosively long songs. Its just that story...like a fable its so lacking the finer details, and yet it has such depth and clarity of feeling.

I also think Marathon is amazing. And Witch Hunt is one of the most beautiful sounding songs ever in my book!

Kinda assumed the big 3. You guys are so cliche. I mean really 2112, Xanadu & La Villa? :eyeroll:

They left the 70s behind for a reason. It was a choice. If the question is referring to composition, then Hemispheres takes the progressive epic cake easy. This question really shouldn't even exist in this form.

They left the seventies behind because in that decade they perfected their craft and then started to look elsewhere for inspiration lest they stagnate and die.

There is a reason why so many of our favourite songs are from this era: the lengthy songs were awesome, and they flat out rocked.

Don't even have to think twice about this.

Xanadu.

If it came out today, it would still be magnificent because it is timeless. There are many albums and songs that came out in the late sixties and seventies that will never be dated for that fact.

Xanadu is one of them.

Xanadu...never gets enough love from me, which now I come to think about it, is quite unforgivable!
