Yea Black Clouds is climbing my list.

used to hate it........now i don't know why, lol

the only song i'd Nix is the Best of Times. really drags the album down.

Mick

Yeah, The Best Of Times is the only one I don't care about. I get why the song was made but it just ran too long for my liking. I've heard them do all the other songs off the album live and they all came off great. When I saw them on that tour, I was able to get an off date from them opening for Maiden. Really good set and since they were opening at the time they didn't have their whole stage show, so it was just them playing on stage with a few lights and that was it. You won't ever see them more stripped down than that.

I can't remember if i was a member here when I saw that show. But if I was, then i'm sure there's a review in this thread.

Here's the set from that show. Very well balanced I thought.

What is the Dream Theater fanbase like?! As nuts and annoying as the Rush one?

Coz I find the bands somewhat similar and wondered if the fanbase were as well...

The Best of Times has one of Petrucci´s best solos, but it does go on for too long.

For em their best live albums are Live at the Marquee (LaBrie at the height of his powers!!!), Score and Budokan. From their latest lineup, Breaking the Fourth Wall is cool too.

I like Systematic Chaos, but people give it a bad rap because of Repentance (which is not heavy as the other songs from Portnoy´s "booze saga") and Prophets of War, which many think is a lame attempt at doing a Muse song.

I´ve followed all their tours since Octavarium and also saw them at a festival in 1999 (Falling into Infinity tour). The most special shows I´ve seen have got to be these two in Tokyo

January 12th, 2006:

· The Root of All Evil

· Another Won

· A Fortune in Lies

· Under a Glass Moon

· Caught in a Web

· Peruvian Skies

· Strange Déjà Vu

· Solitary Shell

· About to Crash (Reprise)

· Losing Time/Grand Finale

· As I Am

· Endless Sacrifice

· I Walk Beside You

· Sacrificed Sons

· Octavarium

· Encore:

· Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper

January 13th 2006:

· The Glass Prison

· This Dying Soul

· Never Enough

· Panic Attack

· Just Let Me Breathe

· Raise the Knife

· Highway Star

· Child in Time

(Deep Purple cover)

· Smoke on the Water

(Deep Purple cover)

· The Mule

(Deep Purple cover) (with drum solo)

· Strange Kind of Woman

(Deep Purple cover)

· Lazy

(Deep Purple cover)

· Space Truckin'

(Deep Purple cover)

Dream Theater are the real deal: whoever thinks they are overrated are wrong.

Going to be really, really honest: I like them more than Opeth, Mastodon, Paradise Lost and Iron Maiden.

And listening to them over and over and over is justification for that high praise: I NEVER BINGE LISTEN TO ANY OF THOSE OTHER BANDS!

The only thing wrong with BCSL is A Nightmare to Remember is about 2 minutes too long. Otherwise, it's great.

TCoT is really amazing, cheesy cookie monster vocals and all.

Did you guys know that Portnoy was hospitalized after the show that became Live Scenes from New York?

yea.....i heard he nearly played himself to death.

Mick

Is this true? How?

So, what is generally thought of as the best live album?

I listened to once in a livetime the other day it was good

For me it's live scenes from New York

GREAT show

Mick

That's a GREAT concert (all of SFAM and ACoS is hard to top), but Score is their best live album.

Yeah it's true, he got really sick from over exerting himself and not drinking enough water. I mean it's kind of easy to see how with a set like that.

Playing Awake. First thing I notice is that I am not hating 6:00, but it is easily the worst songs I have heard from them thus far.

But the energy is infectious! Hopefully another top notch album...

Awake is so far the worst. The Mindfields of DT's career.
