We are talking about both front and back, logos, colors, pictures, art, quotes....the whole package

 

Key word yet again - favorite, not necessarily *the best*

Do Rush have any all-timers in terms of album covers??

I'd say they're usually pretty interesting. Not the first bunch so much, but AFTK was, and PeW and MP. Signals was a bit "on the nose," but GUP and PW are among my favorites (PW just seems so enigmatic). After that, they fade a bit. HYF was terrible. Presto was okay, RTB was okay, Counterparts was meh, although the collage of sets of things was cool. The cover of T4E was better than the music. Vapor Trails was okay; Feedback seemed derivative, and SaA was ugly. CA looked half-done, honestly.

 

Pink Floyd did good album covers. For me, though, Derek Riggs's run with Iron Maiden is the pinnacle.

They have some great album covers, but I could list probably 5 bands with better covers overall

FBN and P/G are 2 of my favorites from any band.

Top 10 for me, which could mean they're in my top 5. Haven't thought to rank my favorite bands' album covers, but that'd be an interesting thing to try and rank.

I picked top five. Fly By Night, Permanent Waves, AFTK are awesome and Power Windows is pretty good too. Are we counting the liner notes? Those were the best!   There are a few album covers I like better, though not many- Sgt Peppers, Dark Side Of The Moon, that Joy Division mountain thing, Aladdin Sane.

My initial reaction (and I have not really thought this through in great detail) was to go with the "Not in my top 10" option.  But after a bit of thought I went with the "Maybe in my top 10" option.

 

Rush has some very good cover art (FBN, 2112, HYF, Presto), some ok art (g/p, T4E) and a lot of weak art.  Overall I would say Triumph kicked their buts.  They had a lot of very good cover art.  Blind Guardian has a ton of good cover art as well.  Maiden would likely beat them out and its possible Priest would as well.  Dio, Dragon Force and Helloween all come to mind when I think of very good cover art as well.   The moe I think about it, "Maybe in the top 10" feels about right - but if they are they would barely be in the top 10.
