grep
Been going through Manfred Mann's bootleg archives on Amazon streaming. Just on a whim. I had no idea they were this good of a band. Always figured Blinded By The Light, and For You were the extent of their thing. Pretty decent prog/jazz going on with the Earth Band. Will be digging into the catalog. Entre_Perpetuo
Mastodon- Hushed And Grim (10/10) Blood Mountain has been my favourite Mastodon album since it came out in 2006. I loved it so much that everything that came after underwhelmed me for the longest time. Sure, I now love their entire discography, but I expected BM to remain my favourite Mastodon album for all time. Then Hushed And Grim came out, and I can safely say it's my album of the year and I'm obsessed with it, and I'm pretty sure for the first time since 2006, Mastodon have blown me away with a new album I love both immediately and perhaps more than all that came before. Masterpiece. Is it grim enough for me though? Possibly, it's got a seventies rock vibe. Like Blood Mountain if recorded by Blue Oyster Cult. I think it's better than their last three albums easily. Could rival CTS and BM without a shadow of a doubt. I was listening to it (H&G) again recently. Gotta get myself a copy. I liked it at first, but at the same time it seems like a grower, which is a very good sign. Update: I went out and bought it. Finally reading some of these lyrics... whew. Heavy, but beautiful. Entre_Perpetuo
Mastodon - Crack The Skye At the moment....my assessment from yesterday still stands. This album is a masterpiece, but Hushed And Grim has broken through to a new level that I prefer. Currently listening to Leviathan, which I don't expect to surpass either even though I do enjoy it. Blood And Thunder! their first 2 albums Remission and Leviathan are different beast completely to what they became. they Started to show change on blood mountain. which combined their earlier aggressive style with a more melodic approach. Myself i prefer Crack the skye to the present the most. i can only take so much of aggressive metal. i need hooks damn it, lol. and boy do you get it going forward. Mick I love everything they have done, and I truly believe that they have only gotten better, with the odd album I personally rank lower than other fans (Emperor Of Sand, though Cold Dark Place, the EP that came out the same era, is one of my favourite things they have done).
