I would have chosen Van Damme or Van Helsing if they were an option. Both of them are pretty metal. :haz:

I like Van Halen better, so I chose them, but there's no denying Morrison's talent and influence, which is why I chose Moondance as definitive album. Fair Warning got the third vote.

Moondance and Astral Weeks ..... two of the most critically acclaimed albums in the history of modern music, being soundly thumped by a pair of Van Halen albums ..... ya have to laugh! (or perhaps cry)

Van Halen is way more popular. That's what it boils down to. They have a universal following. Morrison has had more of a cult following for most of his career.

We can't just plump for everything that's critically acclaimed can we? That would be fake as f**k, just pretending you like it because the critics love it. Is that rock n roll to you? Would you prefer it if everybody just turned around suddenly and said "Yes let's all vote for Van Morrison whether we like it or not, and anything else that's critically acclaimed! And now we're all going out and buying any albums that are "critically acclaimed" and we're gonna spend the rest of out lives listening to it, and searching for polls like this to make sure we vote for all the "critically acclaimed" albums.

Something being critically acclaimed has never held much weight for me when it comes to what I will listen to. It's usually based on what I hear from the artist and what their fans think about their albums.

Err ..... all fine and dandy chaps .... but ...... the two albums are bloody good!! It's a bit like me saying to you Treeduck hey why do you rate Return To Forever? Sure they are critically acclaimed so you must just like them because of that.!!! No, you like them because they are great. The two Morrison albums are also great. When it boils down to music, i have never been fake as f**k in my f**king life chief.

It's you who's talking about albums that are critically acclaimed, I've never mentioned it. I never even think about it normally. It makes no difference to me if an album is popular, unpopular, critically acclaimed or not.

Think back to the 70's. Black Sabbath used to be thought of as a joke band by the critics, it's only been in retrospect in the last 20 years that Sabbath have been acclaimed by critics. They're still the same band to me though.

Slightly off topic, I remember when I first listened to Black Sabbath. At the time most people thought they were devil worshippers. They were a band that felt dangerous at the time. When I first listened to them it was the late 70's, like 1978/1979, but imagine someone first listening to the first album in 1970, or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in 1973. Sabbath were scary! :blaze:

I made a flippant comment, mentioned the acclaimed thing (which is fact) and then get jumped on. Don't make any odds to me whether critics like something, or whether the act is the biggest thing on the planet, I like purely on my own tastes and preferences. Just don't expect to get called a fake on the strength of a one-liner!!

Now you're putting words into my mouth. I was just asking the question, should we all just praise all the critically acclaimed albums, after your shock at the poll results so far. You shouldn't be shocked though when Van Halen win a poll against Van Morrison on a mostly prog rock/hard rock forum.

I started listening in 72. They certainly weren't seen as a joke band then .... but N. Ireland was like bible-belt country and they were called the music of the devil. I had one of those khaki army style schoolbags and i had a bit

inverted cross with Black Sabbath done on it with permanent marker. My folks hated it.

Sorry, just rubbed me up the wrong way .... if you knew me (which will happen if we keep gabbing on the forum!) .... if anything, I go for music which is not popularly acclaimed ..... like to be different. Take Rush for instance .... over the years there have been a load of 'Rush haters' .... that made me like them even more!

Where did I accuse you of being fake in your musical tastes? And I wasn't jumping on you with my comment. Just merely stating the fact that Van Halen being so massively popular is the reason they're winning this. They've simply had a bigger impact on fans and the music world overall.
