thinking back about Hard Wired.  i agree with you that's the problem.

1.  with the runtime.  making it a double was stupid.  they do single albums every time that long.

2,  2nd disc was ass it should have been just the one.

Mick

Create a separate playlist for Hardwired like I did. All of disc 1, Confusion and Spit Out The Bone. Now you have an 8 song classic album like Lightning and Puppets. Most of Hardwired disc 2 is filler.

Nightwish:

1. Endless Forms Most Beautiful

2. Dark Passion Play

3. Century Child

4. Wishmaster

5. Imaginaerum

6. Once

7. Human Nature

8. Oceanborn

9. Angels Fall First

10. Yesterwynde

I'm really sad to put the two most recent albums towards the bottom. HN surpasses for having songs I love like Music, The Shoemaker, Endlessness and Pan.

Yesterwynde has...sadly not one song I could call a favourite.

Mastodon:

I've been on a real Mastodon kick lately, I'm thinking they might have the most spectacular discography in all of metal. I could make a defense for each and every single album being a masterwork.

1. Emperor Of Sand

2. Crack The Skye

3. Blood Mountain

4. Leviathan

5. Hushed And Grim

6. Remission

7. Once More 'Round The Sun

8. The Hunter

Sparks.

Now this is massive.  i will only bew doing their straight studio albums.  not the including the soundtrack for some film they did or the Franz Ferdinand collab album. oh and also their useless album of re-recorded Sparks songs  Just Straight Sparks.

1. Indiscreet

2. Angst In My Pants

4. Whomp That Sucker

5. Kimono My House

6. Hippopotamus

7.Propoganda

8. Big Beat

9.  Sparks In Outer Space

10. A Steady Drip Drip Drip

11. No. 1 In Heaven

12. Introducing Sparks

13. Hello Young Lovers

14. The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte

15.  Lil Beethoven

16.   Exotic Creatures Of The Deep

17. Terminal Jive

18. Pulling Rabbits Out Of A Hat

19. Interior Design

20. A Woofer In Tweeters Clothing

21. Sparks

22.  Music That You Can Dance To

23. Gratouitous Sax and Sensless Violins

24. Balls

25.  The Seduction Of Igmar Bergman

I know that's a lot but you must understand this band reinvented themselves every few albums.  and honestly the only albums i dislike are the last 4 on my list.  so this list is just me celebrating a band that very quickly took over my life, lol

This band is awesome. i always say this band is as if Queen had a baby with Zappa and then was screamed at by weird Al all its life.

And Al has cited this duo as an influence.  Now that i know Sparks yea.  You hear Russel's vocal tics all over Al's voice.

Ok Nightwish

1. Dark Paassion Play

2. Century Child

3. Imaginearium

4.  Oceanborn

5. Wishmaster

6. Endless Forms Most Beautiful

7. Once

8. Yesterwynde

9. Human Nature

10. Angels fall First

I'm not as huge on EFMB as segue. NO WAY is it my fav.  I think the Anette era is by far my fav.  though Century Child is just a freakin' Madterpiece.

The Floor era has been by least fav sadly.  EFMB is really good but even it comes across as a hollow echo.

the recent two.........like......da fukk?

lol

I tried to like Yesterwynde.  it just ain't hitting.  and HN? gag me.

i've been reading a lot of fan ranks and you'd be surprised by how many put EFMB last.  like a ton, lol

I won't  go that far but it isn't the best at all.

Part of the problem is the albums are just to long.  There's is so many needless things in each song.  like a majority of these songs could be cut right in half and i wouldn't miss it.

the only one they got it right on was DPP wouldn't change a note.

That's one thing i like about the Tarja era.  the albums were all about 50 minutes.  Once might have been a little longer but all those records got in and out.  Pretty quickly.

Later NW can make DT blush with it's Self induldgence, lol

I don't find NW as obnoxiously annoying as the worst DT, but I do agree it can be a chore.

EFMB I still have in my top three. But after nearly a decade, it's dimmed for me a little whilst DPP stays as magnificent as always.

To be honest, I would probably have it a lot higher if I’d heard it a year or so earlier than I did. I spent a lot of time with the records to either side of it before I ever listened to it, so it wound up like the forgotten middle child for me, but I really do love it.

Been playing a lot f opeth and here's how i'd rank them.  just be warned the prog/death Metal fans may be surprised but just calling what my ears hear.

1. Ghost Reveries

2. Pale Communion

3. Sorceress

4. Watershed

5.  Deliverance

6. In Caudio Venenum

7. Blackwater Park

8. Still Life

9. Hritage

10. Damnation

11. My Arms, Your Hearse

12. Morningrise

13. Orchid

As you can see the proghead in me loves when they are prog or mix in classic prog over the Death metal.  Does not mean i don't like his death growls.  but i prefer the nods too 70's prog in albums like Ghost Reveries, Pale Communion, Watershed and Sorceress.  and BTW Opeth use a ton of classic mellotron. Can't get more 70's prog than that!!!!!

Mick

As you can cleary see the proghead in me prefers the prog or prog leanin

I'll make an attempt with the Elton albums I do know. His 70s run is still untouchable but even the lower ranked stuff has some great material on it:

1. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

2. Honky Chateau

3. Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player

4. Too Low for Zero

5. Tumbleweed Connection

6. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

7. Songs From the West Coast

8. Caribou

9. Rock the Westies

10. The Road to El Dorado

11. Elton John

12. The Union (With Leon Russell)

13. Madman Across the Water

14. Made in England

15. The Diving Board

16. The Captain and the Kid

17. Blue Moves

18. Wonderful Crazy Night

19. A Single Man

20. Peachtree Road

21. Empty Sky

Last of the ones I do know: The Lockdown Sessions. It has a few good tracks on it but it's mostly just bleh. I've never even bothered with the 80s albums that lack Bernie.
