stoopid
people i feel are hoisting it up BECAUSE of 13 years of no Tool. In a month or two I wonder how much play the album will be getting. Decades later I still spin their older albums. Is this album *really* that good? That's the true test. i feel like with Fear they just took all the albums and hit blend. and while nothing's bad. it just doesn't have any of the excitment and drive the others have. That's a well crafted, succinct summary of my previously posted review. Websters will be updating their definition of "plod[ding]" with a link to this album on Spotify.

Or what I'm doing - playing some new music from other bands I like, which turn out to be better/overall more enjoyable releases.

bluefox4000
I only like Undertow You know i know a good amount of people say that. Undertow is Great.....and in a way more straight forward alt/rock/metal. cause going forward they really bloated things up. Mick

stoopid
I only like Undertow I can definitely relate/respect that. When aenema came out, I didn't even buy it after hearing a friend's copy. [at the time I had very little money for stuff like music, so spending $10-20 on a CD was a big deal for me financially] Eventually I bought a used copy and came around. But at the time I was content with Tool being a one-album-I-enjoyed band.
thesweetscience
I really have grown to love the album. It is undeniably Tool. They didn't get outside their element for sure. But the music, especially the drums and bass, are over the top good and the production quality is perfect. Got my tickets for November. I can't wait. custom55
Not sure what's going with me but I'm in love with Fear Incoulum. One of my bucket list bands is Tool and I got fantastic seats, in front of Adam, for November 16. http://youtu.be/f7A1cMfl0Xc Edited September 8, 2019 by custom55

As an album that you play through from start to finish, I definitely like it better than 10,000 Days. I miss not having at least one snappy shorter song like "Vicarious" but that's a minor quibble. I downloaded the album from HD Tracks. Hi-res flac files. It sounds phenomenal on my home theater system.

Although I prefer their 1st 4 albums, I respect that Tool has grown by further exploring their progressive, immersive and complex style. Not by leaving their roots behind by coming up with an entirely new style (ahem synth) or "that lyrical style is too immature for me now." The album is essentially six songs that average 12 minutes and a drum solo and three segues. Imagine if a band like Rush were as bold in their mid 50s.

Rush have their best, and never took 13 years between albums to deliver the goods. Not a fair comparison.

Presto-digitation
It is what is is. I think WE overthink things more than they do, quite honestly. Getting old may indeed be a bitch for the band, but unfortunately it applies to the difficult to please older fan too.
