Texas King
Musically it's a toss-up between Cygnus X-1(Part I) and The Necromancer. Both songs sound very creepy, mean and dark to me. Cygnus X-1 contains 'the meanest' Geddy's bassline ever. And this vocal melody at the end of song Cygnus X-1 honestly scared me during the first listening:Sound and furyDrown my heartEvery nerveIs torn apaaaaart... Lyrically it's probably Between the Wheels or Red Sector A.
JohnnyBlaze
I agree 100% with Necromancer, Cygnus X-1, and Red Sector A. Those were my first 3 thoughts. I'd add Losing it (my 4th thought) from a lyrical point of view.
treeduck
A dark one would be Red Sector A, can't get much darker than a Nazi concentration camp.

Bigbobby10
Grace Under Pressure for me is just a dark album Afterimage, Red Sector A and Between the wheels.
fraroc
The ENTIRE Grace Under Pressure album. I would say that GUP was actually a pioneer in the genre of dark wave. Light sounding music with an incredibly dark theme.... 1.Fear of nuclear war2.Loss of a love one3.The holocaust4.The effect of mental illness5.Living in a dystopia6.Bullying7.McCarthyism/The Red Scare8.Life during wartime
jnoble
I'd go with The Necromancer. Speaking of which, does anyone else notice how damn quiet it was mastered to CD? Even the '07 remaster I have requires the volume to be pretty much maxed out to hear it at all during the beginning.

I still think the lackluster production (and some of the inherent cheese to the 80s sounds) is all that's really holding this album back, it excels everywhere else.

Citizen of the World
A dark one would be Red Sector A, can't get much darker than a Nazi concentration camp. What makes it even darker is that it doesn't mention Nazis. It leaves it open to other possibilities for camps that still exist today.

Could have been a breadbasket to the world, too.
