What Was The First Band To Get you Into Rock/Metal/Etc?
pjbear05 replied to Permanent-Rush's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Cream and Hendrix to start, followed by the massive wave of Detroit rock: MC 5, Seger, Alice Cooper, Amboy Dukes, Brownsville Station, SRC, etc. -
The British 60s/70s hard rock duel! Who, Zep?
pjbear05 replied to Entre_Perpetuo's topic in Music Of The Spheres
The Who, but not by much. Both great bands. I regret that I never saw Zep live and The Who only once. -

Did the Counterparts Messageboard blow up?
pjbear05 replied to chemistry1973's topic in Random Samples
I was also receiving this error message for a week. This morning I'm not even receiving that. My guess is FJ is trying to fix it. No further messages from the FB page. -
Let's go trippin, Miserlou. RIP Dick.

Not a fan of Guinness, but I understand you need to drink the draft version in Ireland. Had Beamish on draft once, made Guinness taste like Near Beer. Going to the Khoffner brewpub in Lauderdale later, get me some of their Helles Bock. Slainte!

I've always had a baby face, so even with the gray in my hair people are shocked to find out how old I am. I feel my age mostly in my lack of energy, although that could be changed if I just get my diet under control. As far as pain issues, my knees and back act up occasionally, but I use Tylenol because of othe pain reliievers interacting with all the other meds I take.

Happy birthday, Earl!

Ah, I'm glad you posted these. They're not showing up properly here on the board, but the links are in my notification e'mail :) ***EDIT Ah, there they are now! I'm ashamed to say that even though I have over 2100 albums on vinyl and around 10,000 albums in FLAC on HDDs, AND even the fact that I'm a frigg'n guitarist!!! I've never ever really checked out his stuff. So, this will give me an excellent though WAY overdue opportunity. Thanks mate! :D Saw EJ open for Jonny Lang at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood years ago, the guy is a master! My latest addition to my Mp3 player was 15 of Eric's tunes.

Can you name your ONE fave rhythm guitarist?
pjbear05 replied to Texas King's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Staying within the realm of the subject, Malcolm Young hands down. -
Fun show. Kinda gross when they test for flesh (hacking a hog carcass) I admit I enjoy the ballistic dummies tests more than the fish and hog carcasses.

Forged in Fire. A contest of people forging knives, swords, and edged weapons from raw materials, and having them tested for strength, durability, and of course, killing power. Testing is brutal, and if not up to snuff, a blade will be broken. Nothing better than judge and tester Doug Marcaida's statement of "This blade will keel" (kill).

The MC 5's live debut album, "Kick Out The Jams", was released on February 22, 1969. Recorded at the Grande Balroom in Detroit, it remains a cornerstone in Detroit based music. As an idealistic youth I walked down Cass Avenue in Detroit, on the fringes of the Wayne State University campus to a "hip" book and record store called Mixed Media, then one of the few retailers of the album. The band already had a reputation for its loud, powerful live shows, including one played at Wayne State's Tartar Field. The reputation was furthered by the title song's opening clarion call, which led to some retailers-notably JL Hudson's- to refuse to stock the album. Apart from the title cut were opener "Rambling Rose", "Borderline", their version ofJohn Lee Hooker's "The Motor City's Burnin' ", and Sun Ra's "Starship". Truly, an album for the ages. AND RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW IT'S TIME TOO... KICK OUT THE JAMS, MOTHERF---ER!

Clash of two songs from 1976: Aerosmith vs. Zeppelin!
pjbear05 replied to Texas King's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Yep. It's Zep. -
Goodness, six years already? Oh well, running behind as always. Thank you one and all. A good chuckle at Blueschicha's duckling crossing picture. Never encountered a gator crossing the road, but we do have a fairly good sized duck population, mostly Muscovy's. They populate a pond on the community college campus not far from me, and yes, we have had traffic stoppages caused by Mrs. Muscovy and her string of duckling progeny attempting to cross the street. Of course, they are not too observant of crosswalks.

Just got this on loan from the library. Been through 2 of the 3 CD 's, and to be honest I'm not particularly impressed with the overall quality. Sounds very muddy and dull, especially the low end of a lot of songs. Some of them were, imho, recorded better on previous recordings. Am I alone here?

Finally have a picture that isn't older than dirt, and where I'm properly dressed.
