workingcinderellaman
I was only going to talk about this movie in the historical movies thread, but I have a feeling that it deserves a thread of its own. This is the movie I've been looking forward to above all others this summer. I really like Christopher Nolan and I'm interested in seeing how he handles this historical film.

The Analog Grownup
I will watch it too. As a WWII history nerd I have no choice, and I like that it's a story that has been somewhat forgotten.
invisible airwave
I hope it's as good as critics say. I hated Nolan's last two movies and he's not the cinematic 2nd coming of Christ his fanboys make him out to be.
blueschica
I will watch it too. As a WWII history nerd I have no choice, and I like that it's a story that has been somewhat forgotten. They did an interesting program on The Weather Channel about it one time, part of their series called When Weather Made History. I'm not sure what the weather will be like in the movie, but what I remember from the Weather Channel show was that winds were very low across the English Channel for several days, nearly calm, which allowed the used of small boats that would have been swamped by larger winds and waves. It was a very cool program- I hope the movie is as good! (Even with Harry Styles ??!!?? )

JARG
I'm looking forward to it as well. I really like the way BFG sounds when he talks. Cool accent. Edited July 18, 2017 by JARG

Do you have some kind of access to the dark net that enables you to see movies before their release date?

JohnRogers
I need to support a few films the next few weeks but increasingly have less patience with audiences these days. Dunkirk is one such film.

Dunkirk is one such film.I hear you. I love to go to the movies so I try not to let things bother me too much, but there are some things I really hate. Since I worked at a movie theater as a teen, I have no problem telling someone to be quiet or to turn their bright smartphone off. Even with all of that, I still love going to see movies in a big theater.

Wait until Epix or hire a sitter, damnit! Great movie, though.

I see young parents do this a lot.
JARG
So it could have been a really great movie had it been told in a different manner. Great actors, but the dialogue is too sparse and the character development too anemic for those actors to shine.

Even without the character development, it could have been improved just by using a more traditional story-telling technique.
thesweetscience
As usual I will just wait for it to come out and watch it at home. I really hate going to the movies. I don't remember the last time I went.

I have tickets for next Tuesday and its good to hear something critical. I would much rather go into it with realistic expectations.
