Votes are public.

I didn't, but my wife at the time couldn't keep it a secret for an entire day.

Here's the results of a poll you might find interesting.

I don't see the point of not knowing...there's practical considerations to take care of based on it's sex.

I'm not painting the f***ing nursery twice.

Exactly, I decorated the nursery, picked out clothes, and even picked out the names in advance for both my daughters.

We picked a unisex name for my son...and would just change the middle name if we got surprised.

Husband and I were just at the tail end of the last generation that didn't know the sex until they were born. :codger:  :D   Back then ultrasounds were pretty much a specialized thing and were done only if problems were indicated. My husband thought I was nuts, but I had a strong mom's intuition and had us pick the right sex name each time, thank goodness.  We had the boy first, which made hand me downs a little easier as well. There were a lot of brother's t-shirts lil sis could wear with pigtails.

I've never had kids, but if I did I wouldn't want to know the sex ahead of time.  Just like I'd never want to peek at my presents before opening them.  I like (good) surprises.

It's still a surprise.  You don't know until you know.  You're just surprised on a different day.

Wonder if there's any correlation of answers here with spoilers at Rush concerts. There is for me...surprises all around.

No, but we did get quite a surprise.

Background: my partner is the middle of 3 girls. When the youngest daughter was born and the father was told the child was a girl, he apparently said; "aren't they all'? lol. So my partner had two daughters from a previous marriage, and we didn't want to know. I kind of did, but didn't really want to have any preconceived notions about what the child was going to be. She had a hunch that they weren't saying specifically but she was sure it was going to be a girl. We all sat around for a few days deliberating possible names and had a specific girls name picked out and some possible boys names we all liked just in case.

So imagine my surprise when I put the stem on the apple!! Having to do it again I would definitely want to know. But I don't want any more kids. Well I kinda do, but thats another thread. ;)

I voted no in this poll, but we knew anyway. That means it didn't really matter that I didn't want to know, haha- she wanted to know, and so...there it is.

And after all, I didn't mind knowing ahead of time. But it would have been fine if I'd not known, also.

We found out for all of our kids. It was not terribly surprising (We have 3 boys). My brothers and his wife had a baby girl a couple years ago- that was the first girl in my family since WWII (29 straight boys).

For our youngest, our intention was to not find out- however, when we went in for the sonogram, I noticed the baby had a tallywhacker- I asked the nurse "Is that what I think it is?" She confirmed- so much for surprises

We went with a neutral color for our firstborn (a daughter). We also told virtually no one until she arrived (3 people were told that I recall. I wanted to hold off so that ladies would not just bring clothes to the baby shower).

We have 4--youngest is 14.

The first one we didn't want to know--but ended up finding out anyway.

after that we wanted to know so we could plan for it.

When information is available to me, regardless of what it relates to, I prefer not to stick my head in the sand.

I'm sure the 'head in the sand' phrase will bring out the snark in some people. Go ahead...I just ruined your 'surprise'.

We didn't know we were having a girl until she was born. We also don't open Christmas gifts before Chtistmas. ;)
