I love that we both listed Runaway Trains.

That song is so underrated.

Top 10 Petty songs? Gee, asking for my top 10 Beatles songs would almost be easier. He was so consistent!

That said, whatever I post here would definitely be in my top ten if I took the time to curate it:

The Waiting
Don't Do Me Like That
Mary Jane's Last Dance
You Got Lucky
Breakdown
Refugee
Louisiana Rain

okay there's seven, everything else is somewhere between 8 and 10 :P

With how much music Tom Petty has, done, did, and released as a solo artist, and when he was in the band, and group the Heartbreakers, I think there are a lot of great songs to choose from for being able to put together a top ten list of them.

I don't have a Top 10 to list per se.

The songs on his 'Greatest Hits' album to me are great.

One favorite of mine is 'King of the Hill' that he co-wrote with Roger McGuinn.

Here's the song with the ride-out and the video.

What's interesting is that Tom ended up being a cartoon character on the television show 'King of the Hill'.

Here's another song from Roger McGuinn featuring Tom Petty on background vocals.

The song is written and arranged in a rock & roll manner that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers could've called their own years ago.
