GrandDesigner Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 What do you guys feel is Alex's best moment in a song that isn't talked about very much and isn't a solo? Vapor Trails is my least favorite Rush album, but I've always thought that the riffs at 3:20 in Peaceable Kingdom and 4:00 in Secret Touch were some of the coolest things he's ever done and I never really hear them mentioned. 2
Union 5-3992 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 The opening to Middletown Dreams. He really adds a sort of dreamlike melancholic atmosphere. 2
Brucey Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 That jangly, soulful sounding bit in the middle of 'The Trees' always gets me. Please forgive my not very technical language! 5
hammerofthor Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 The parts he plays starting at about 1:11 in Before and After always gets me. Also that little bit at about the 1:53 point in The Camera Eye sounds awesome. 4
EagleMoon Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I love the atmospheric strum he does in Ghost of a Chance when Geddy sings the "state of grace" line. Also love his work in The Necromancer. 5
Lucas Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Xanadu is, of course, always mentioned as a great Rush song, but the way Alex sets the tone with the intro is amazing Similarly, I also love the volume swells he puts in Rivendell . 4
Digital Dad Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Hell even Roll the Bones has great guitar playing. My favorite guitar songs by Rush are pretty much my favorite songs except perhaps Subdivisions and the guitar solo there is a masterpiece. 1
Day of Light Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Tom Sawyer. That riff that goes from 0:46-0:52 and onward once Geddy starts singing got me hooked on Rush. It's a Geddy and Alex moment, not just Alex, but... it's pretty nice. Afterimage, Alex's guitar work during the chorus. 3
Cyclonus X-1 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 The cool use of delay during the verses in You Bet Your Life. 1

The guitar through out The Necromancer is excellent, and again, Alex sets the tone during the intro And while speaking of intro, I love the beginning of Before And After ... definitely a sign of things to come 4
JohnRogers Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 The opening to Middletown Dreams. He really adds a sort of dreamlike melancholic atmosphere.Off to the Spotify cave!

HemiBeers Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) The bridge in Sweet Miracle when he's solo with Geddy. Just love the tone. At 2:40 Edited April 10, 2016 by 2112FirstStreet 2
JARG Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 His guitar work during the verses of Alien Shore is a sublime study in "less is more". Excellent stuff.

That entire album qualifies for me but I love it for the masterpiece it is. 1
Tombstone Mountain Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Ok here it is. His most unappreciated, underrated moment. The whole song is epic, but his work from 4:00 to 4:50 absolutely fries my brain...especially 4.39 to 4:50http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xve6SCcuMWg But it can't be a solo in this thread. So, let's roll with thisFar Cry :43 to :51The muted harmonics are crazy awesome Edited April 12, 2016 by Tombstone Mountain 2
