You hear the term "Classic Rock" tossed about all the time.

But what does it really mean?

The question here is, in your opinion, what would you say are 20 albums that best define what "Classic Rock" is.

It is harder than you think to narrow it down to 20, unbiased selections.

Here are my 20...which, admittedly, would, most likely change from day to day...

1: The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

2: Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

3: The Who - Who's Next

4: Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

5: The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

6: Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?

7: The Doors - The Doors

8: David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars

9: The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

10: Led Zeppelin - IV

11: The Kinks - The Kinks are the Village Green Society

12: Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic

13: Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak

14: Queen - A Night at the Opera

15: Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

16: Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

17: Alice Cooper - Love it to Death

18: Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

19: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd

20: Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Rust Never Sleeps

Good thread topic. I will have to give it some thought and come back. I am way to tired after a long day of driving. I am interested to see the responses.

I Feel like CCR is all that's missing but then again I see only a list of flawless choosing.

Whilst appreciating that musical taste is a matter of opinion ...................... I wouldn't label Eagles, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Elton John or The Beach Boys with the term "Rock", classic or otherwise.

That's the trick right there. I edited my list 30 seconds after posting it.

:)

There were several things I thought of that I decided not to put on my list due to the fact that there was only one song from an album that I had in mind, that made it classic. But then there are several things that DID make my list, where exactly the same scenario held true. I can't sufficiently explain the reasoning.

Glad I don't necessarily have to.

Great thread!

Yeah, I went back and forth on a few on the list and a few omitted as well.

His Satanic Majesty's Request

Picking this over Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main St? Very interesting. I like the album a lot too but it's not the Rolling Stones album I would put on the list. Mainly because the album wasn't them musically.

Maybe that's the appeal?

That's why I like the album myself. But I don't think it's the album from them that best represents classic rock.

Does that mean we have to run our list by you first?

I think each individual list will have some sprites for us.

ReGor's initial list, I personally would remove Elton John and add Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Nope.

Don't understand how you got that out of what I was saying? Just trying to get a little discussion going.

I understand what you mean; I'm right there with you. That's the reason why I didn't pick Black and Blue, even though I love it. Sticky Fingers and Let it Bleed fit the criteria much better, in my opinion.

But Lorraine also said those choices were her opinion. No fault; no right nor wrong. It's all good.
