Fair Warning - Van Halen :haz:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_atKrCdoiKZ4/SyvuvPskdUI/AAAAAAAAEOQ/D_SlAjbtepY/s320/VH+Fair.jpg

My favorite VH album :haz:

It's a great record! I don't know if I'd call it underrated, though.

In the grand scheme it is, but not among musicians or RUSH fans.

'Tis the bubble in which I live, evidently. :)

If any original VH album is underrated its Diver Down.

I haven't heard Diver Down since about 1991...but I always felt it was the weakest of all of the initial DLR-Van Halen albums.

Agreed. Although that's a relative thing. It's still pretty damn good.

Yeah, I thought about that, too. I don't mean that it's not a good record.

(But two cover songs and Big Bad Bill make up something like a third of the whole album, don't they?) :P

I love No Code. I also think Binaural is underrated too.

That's why I place it last, to be honest. Where Have All the Good Times Gone, (Oh) Pretty Woman, Dancing in the Streets, Big Bad Bill and, I guess Happy Trails. Too many covers. OTOH, The Full Bug, Little Guitars, and Secrets are some of their best work.

And Cathedral is a killer instrumental.

As is the Little Guitars intro.

Fair Warning is a great album, loved it since the day it came out.It has a great live dynamic feel to it although it had the most overdubs on a VH album to that point.Diver Down was a bit of a let down, not because of the covers, but it lost the dynamics of FW.I mean Pretty Woman sounds like it was recorded in mono.It was at this time that Guitar Player magazine ran stories on Eddie and Alex Lifoeson on their respective albums at the time(Diver Down and GUP).Alex commented on Eddie's playing was impressive but had no lasting feel to it.That was a life changer. Although softer and more AOR-oriented in nature, the guitar work is intricate and artfully executed. The production is outstanding, perfectly capturing the vocal arrangements and keyboards. Styx flat out grooves on this album.

Oh...the original LP packaging is creative, as well.

I love this album! It's bottom three for me out of those heavenly first ten albums.

But take note I refer to them as "those heavenly first ten albums".

I even like Babe!

Great album!

I will back you. I love all STYX up to "Paradise Theater." All of the old Wooden Nickel albums are fuckking great!

Sometimes I do have STYX Marathons. Great band.

I am NOT a fan of GOWAN though.

Dennis DeYoung Styx Music is going to South Shore Tahoe. I might have to go.

U2- POP & Zooropa

David Bowie- Outside & Earthling

Queen- Hot Space, The Miracle, the debut album

I agree with you on the Queen albums but NO WAY! U2 POP? You mean POOP!

The Bowie albums never did anything for me.

Since everyone is so sensitive about Bowie right now I will boldy say that Bowie's last Masterpiece is "LET'S DANCE."

For Bowie to hire Stevie Ray Vaughan to lay down the guitar tracks was fukking ORACLE.

The man was ahead of his time.

Bowie RULES!

RIP

Wow poop, how original like I haven't heard that before. :sarcastic:

How is everyone being sensitive about Bowie? By going back and listening to some of his overlooked albums and realizing "gee these aren't so bad after all!"

I love Outside and Earthling, both.

I would say that pretty much everything Bowie released from Black Tie White Noise onward could be considered overlooked, and underrated.

And I'm not just saying that because he has departed this world now. I just think it's so.

I haven't listened to Zooropa since about 1996. Maybe I should reevaluate it. I never liked it a whole lot, back then.

A-ha, even more covers on it than I remembered.

And I only have the vaguest memory of the originals cited here (Cathedral, Little Guitars...I haven't thought about those songs in forever! If I listened to them again, I'm sure they'd come back to me, though).

I like half of Pop and the other half is spotty, but its definitely better than most people give it credit for being. And Zooropa is cool too. Needed one or two more tracks, but overall it is a cool little record.

I like Earthling too.
