If Witch Hunt wasn't on the album, I honestly think it would be a much closer choice

The greatness of Witch Hunt helps me give the edge to MP.

Hemispheres embodies everything I love about RUSH - the pinnacle of what made them so great

If you force yourself to sing above your range, as Geddy claims he had to do when he sang Hemispheres, does it hurt your throat?

 

I'm asking because it doesn't sound like he is straining. He had a beautiful voice back then. And I honestly think he sang it great this R40 tour. Considering all the decades that separated him from the making of the album. I wonder if he could have sung the whole song? I think so. Edit: Hahahaha maybe not. We will call you Cygnus, the god of balance you shall be! :dweez: :dweez: :dweez:

It does hurt my throat after awhile. I can sing it, but it is definitely a strain (and I can't sing it quite the way Geddy does, of course... I don't know that any of us can).

 

The lyric I think he'd have the most trouble with:

That bit, right there. Happens to be my most beloved passage of Rush music, ever.

I think it really all comes down to (pardon the pun) circumstances, not just in the MP vs. Hemispheres debate, but with any piece of music. If you'd asked me before June 2014, I would've said MP was better, by far. I'd been a RUSH fan for 9 years at that point, and while I liked the songs on "Side 2" of Hemispheres, I hadn't yet come to appreciate "Side 1." However, by mid-2014, after enduring the failure of two relationships within the first half of the calendar year (the first of which had lasted 8-plus years; the second, a stupid two-month rebound), I just happened to listen to Side 1 one night, and the whole "heart vs. mind" theme totally clicked with me, and seemed to enhance the music itself. It was like, "Oh, holy s---, THIS is what everyone's been raving about all these years!" Now, Hemispheres is my favorite RUSH album (MP is no slouch, even though it's behind PeW and PoW for me these days as well).

 

You can't just sit down and "try" to like songs or albums. If they click with you, they just do. Some might be the first time you hear them, others may take years or even decades. But it's just so cool when it happens.

 

So for me, the answers are "Hemispheres" and "32."

Probably because they know it's my favorite Rush song and they're just hating on it to get a rise out of me.

MP probably best demonstrates everything the band was good at, but hemispheres is more "up my alley" with the over-the-top heavy prog style

 

I get this! Hemispheres is AMAZING but I would be a liar if I said the proggier Rush is more up my alley.

 

Moving Pictures for me, but this is a win win pairing!
