  1. The 'Different Stages' version is by far the best. I enjoy the repeated "wheels within wheels..." part, and I was glad they axed the "art as expression" section. Those lyrics just don't fit the song, to me...they seem as though they were left over from when the band was working on TSoR or something. I used to really like the SnA Live version before I discovered Different Stages. Now when I go back to the SnA Live version, it sounds like it's in slow-motion, like they're on anti-seizure meds or something. Or maybe I'm just the one who's on anti-seizure meds. Don't develop epilepsy, kids! :)
  2. They're still #1 for me, though I haven't listened to them QUITE as often since R40 ended. There are four bands I consider to be "my favorites," and those are: 1. RUSH 2. Metallica 3. Queen 4. Green Day I've seemed to notice over the past 10 years or so that I listen to bands a lot more when I'm either anticipating seeing them live, or if they have a new album out, and while RUSH is now essentially retired (at least by what info we have), my other three bands are all touring in 2017. I'll be making trips to Philly to see Metallica (May 12) and Queen + A.L. (July 30), and have already seen Green Day out in St. Paul a couple weeks ago and will again in August at Darien Lake, NY (about 2 hours from home sweet Syracuse). Also, both Metallica and Green Day released new albums late last year, both of which kick some serious posterior, so that's also responsible for my current Metallica/Green Day binge.
  3. Ah, RtB...where the good is really good, and the bad is really bad. Dreamline, Roll the Bones, Bravado, Ghost of a Chance, and Where's My Thing? are all really good. The others I really don't like. Among my top four favorite bands, the only albums I can think of where the deep-album-tracks are worse than those on RtB are named "Hot Space," "St. Anger," and "Dos!"
  4. How has no one ever noticed how desperately the title of this film needs a comma?
  5. Launch the Solaris This chick doesn't scare us When will she cease? The nut jobs will all Rust in Peace :fury:
  6. Laurie Anderson's "Big Science" is without a doubt the weirdest album I've ever heard.
  7. MD is my favorite synth-era Rush song (possibly top 5 all-time, definitely top 10). It reminds me of a girl I used to work with here in Syracuse whom I had a huge crush on (oh who am I kidding, I still do, almost 8 years later), and she moved back to her hometown of...that's right...Middletown, CT. I went up to visit her in 2012 and took her to the CA Tour show in Bridgeport, hoping they'd play it, but no such luck (still a great show, though!). I was kinda mad when I found out they'd been playing it occasionally on that tour and I didn't hear it once (saw 3 CA shows). But yeah, back to the song...it's got a beautiful sound, and almost all of us can relate to the lyrics. The whole album is great, really. Still not a ginormous fan of Territories, but it doesn't take away from the cohesiveness of the album. Power Windows is a Rush powerhouse!
  8. Not sure if anyone's read the preview pages from Neil's new book from the link in that thread, but here's a quote from a section where Neil's talking about his drumming ambitions as a teenager: "Owen Hardy in Clockwork Angels was certainly modeled after my sixteen-year-old self: 'In a world where I feel so small, I can't stop thinking big'."
  9. I like this cover of Leave That Thing Alone: Anthrax's version of Anthem isn't bad... Also really digging the new Allegaeon cover of Subdivisions: ...and the best of the best, Lotus Land's Hemispheres Prelude...
  10. Luckily they would have some time off before my birthday in late October... Cygnus X-1, Book 1: The Voyage Cygnus X-1, Book 2: Hemispheres Middletown Dreams Prime Mover In the End Jacob's Ladder Natural Science The Camera Eye Xanadu 2112 (full)
  11. Different Stages version of 2112: "...their power grows with purple straw..."
  12. Natural Science - DS Jacob's Ladder - R40 2112 - DS Passage to Bangkok - ESL Prime Mover - A Show of Hands There aren't any really good officially-released live versions of Hemispheres or Middletown Dreams, sadly.
  13. debut: Need Some Love FBN: In the End CoS: Lakeside Park (though not particularly "hidden" after R40) 2112: Tears AFtK: Cinderella Man Hemispheres: Circumstances (though hard to be hidden when there's 4 songs on the album) PeW: Entre Nous MP: Vital Signs Signals: Chemistry P/G: Enemy WIthin PoW: Middletown Dreams (Emotion Detector is most people's choice, but I don't think getting played a scant few times on CA Tour 'un-hid' MD) HYF: Prime Mover (every time I hear the ASoH version I wonder how this isn't everyone's favorite off HYF) Presto: War Paint RtB: Ghost of a Chance CP: Between Sun and Moon T4E: Color of Right VT: How it Is S&A: The Way the Wind Blows CA: Halo Effect or Carnies...can't decide
  14. Joey Belladonna is the friendliest rock star you'll ever meet. Whenever he's not doing Anthrax stuff, he's playing in a local classic rock cover band. called Chief Big Way, around the greater Syracuse/Central New York area. He sees himself as just a regular dude playing Journey/Bad Company/Zeppelin covers in a bar for 3-4 hours with his pals. You can go up to him before or after a show and chat as long as you'd like. He answers questions, takes all the pics people want, and signs any Anthrax stuff put in front of him. I've also had positive interactions with Joey's bandmate Scott Ian, as well as Andrew W.K., the bands Kittie, Local H, Sense Field, Ozma, Further Seems Forever, Element 101, Finch, From Autumn to Ashes, and The Movielife.
  15. Drastic changes over the span of a decade? QUEEN, from 1973-1982. From a mostly normal-sounding rock debut, to the proggy Queen II, to the eclectic mixture of songs on Sheer Heart Attack, to the grandiosity of A Night at the Opera and Day at the Races, to the heavy rock of News of the World, to however the heck you can describe the 'Jazz' album, to the mainstream sound of The Game, to the gay-club dance nonsense on Hot Space. How's that for radical changes over just a decade?
  16. I like to capitalize the letters when I'm typing. If I'm talking to someone and I type "I love listening to Rush," there's still a pretty big chance (here in 'Murica, anyway) they'll think I mean the fat moronic Conservative windbag.
  17. I apologize ahead of time if anyone else already posted these... Berrysy Berrytories Mintstic Rhythms In the Mousse Choc-and-key Graper Trail Bananimate Spumoniconductor
  18. YES! Portland and Seattle are freaking gorgeous. My best friend from college moved out to Portland with his now-wife five years ago, and last summer I was finally able to fly out there to visit him. In addition to seeing our RUSH boys rock the MODA Center, he took me to a Timbers game (the "Timbers Army" end of the stadium is insane...we were two rows behind the guys with the big drums) and showed me around the city. You absolutely have to have a Long Ball Ale at Bridgeport Brewing Co. (or, if you're into minor league baseball, it's also the official beer of the local team, the Hillsboro Hops). There are so many good microbreweries and watering holes around the city...there's no shortage of good drink! And go to Voodoo Doughnut if you have a sweet tooth! Portland is a really friendly city, and very forward, progressive, and rational. Oh, and a certain plant-based substance is legal there...that's a big draw for a lot of out-of-towners (for what it's worth, I tried it a couple times in the five days I was there...it really didn't seem to do anything).
  19. After growing up on Queen, Metallica, and GnR, I got into a lot of the 90s alternative rock and modern rock when I was a teen (STP, AiC, Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Offspring, etc.). All the way up through the '90s, and into the early 2000s, even if you didn't like a band, you could at least tell who they were by their sound. I remember about 2004, when rock was dominated by bands like Godsmack, System of a Down, Evanescence, Linkin Park, Shinedown, and Nickelback. I said to a couple of friends "is THIS what rock has become?" (Luckily I discovered RUSH in 2005 and that filled a big musical hole!) Now, here we are over a decade later, and (with the exception of LP and Nickelback) I would love to go back and better appreciate those bands I didn't like in 2004. While I've liked some relatively recent stuff by Arch Enemy in 2014 and Kittie in 2011, the vast majority of "modern/heavy rock" staples that people like these days (Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Sick Puppies, etc.) do absolutely NOTHING for me. Who, knows, I may come around to these bands in about another ten years when heavy rock makes itself so much worse again somehow.
  20. Queensryche, by far. Along with 'Empire', 'SotT' is my favorite Queensryche song.
  21. If I stick to Side 1, I get good advice to not kill myself...and I avoid getting red tide poisoning.
  22. Overall, probably...but the other bands I like a lot (Metallica, Queen, Green Day, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Kittie...even "lighter" stuff like Blues Traveler and BNL) get played a lot...and actually, lately I've been listening to quite a bit of Stryper (I might be the first atheist to say that!). Looking forward to seeing Stryper in June (hopefully the M&G won't be too expensive, because I really would like to meet them...I saw Megadeth's M&G package for their tour was going to be like $225 plus ticket...nooooo thank you Dave, Dave and the fill-ins!).
  23. Well first you have to get him to consent to an interview. ;) Bill Cosby could get the interview without his consent. Too soon.
  24. If they've been recording the soundboards for years, there's no excuse for not having a website where, for $10 a pop or so, one can download whatever show they wanted. Metallica's been doing this since the beginning of the 2004 'Madly in Anger' tour. I can think of 11 shows between 2007-2015 I would buy immediately if RUSH ever did this. I think almost any fan would want to buy the shows they've been to. They also need to put out the full T4E Toronto DVD. They absolutely have it. (And, to a lesser extent, I wouldn't mind the Counterparts show that was pro-shot...Auburn Hills, maybe?) If they do these two things, the boys and Ray will have all the wine, bass guitars, and Aston Martin Vanquishes they can handle.
