Xanadu
Not deep subject matter here, just purely curious about this. It's always been said that TS must be played; the band would never skip playing it live because it's their signature song and people expect it. Do you think the same can be said now about Subdivisions? (Or even TSOR, for that matter?) If the band never plays again, it's a moot point. But I just wanted to hear some opinions on this. J2112YYZ
I think it's been equal status with TS and TSOR for a long time now. It should never be skipped live.

Therefore Tom Sawyer > Subdivisions.

TheWatchMaker97
I don't know. The last tour that they didn't plat Subdivisions in was the VT tour. I think its a stand-out Rush song since so many people can relate to it, but I don't think its quite on par with Tom Sawyer in terms of popularity.
JohnRogers
Yes to both songs. Funny recently Subdivisions like Huckleberry Finn has become a song I'll skip. Never skip The Spirit of Radio.
EagleMoon
I don't think it's quite in the public consciousness like TS or TSOR but it kicks so much butt live.

Ancient Ways
It gets a quick and loud reaction from the crowd as soon as they here those keyboards.
theredtamasrule
I would've thought it was a staple for every show but apparently they dropped it from the RTB tour, didn't play it on the CP tour, played then dropped from T4E tour and wasn't on the VT tour...never realized that and it surprises me.
MeanMeanPride
I think it's important to point out that, as a whole, Subdivisions is in a lower register for Geddy than Tom Sawyer. I bet this has been a major reason why it hasn't been skipped live in a long time - it's a major hit, and it happens to be easier on Ged.
Jaminbenb
Both are great songs, but I wouldn't miss either if they skipped them..... I'd miss TSoR, though... Heck, if Neil skipped TS and his solo he'd have more stamina....just saying....

madrushian
The garden is a good song. It is an excellent and appropriate song to end an album and a career.
rocket ignites
Not in my view. Tom Sawyer is the only sure fire, lock it down...live song. THE signature song. I've never heard Subdivisions on the radio. I've heard TS a million times of course, and Limelight/TSOR/Freewill plenty. Subdivisions feels like a deep cut in comparison...no matter how much I like the song or if it makes most set lists.

One of the band's greatest achievements. Always one of the highlights of a concert. In some ways, for me at least, it is more the song I'd point to as the archetypal Rush song. Alex's melodic playing on show, Neil's razor sharp timing, Geddy's bass and keyboards on full show. And it's just such a tight song.
