Lorraine Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 It's very distressing that on a forum of Rush fans we only have ten members who ping all the time, four who ping some of the time, and two who don't know what I am talking about. And an untold number of others who apparently don't care about their civic duty as Rush fans... Very distressing. :( 1

I never know what you are talking about. Are you speaking about llamas? :o You don't like Hemispheres anyway if I recall. So you get a pass. The Ping!!! part in the Prelude is what I am talking about. :) I love HEMISPHERES! I just don't rank it as high as most here...butni easily could!
Disk98 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Only sometimes. I don't listen to Hemispheres very much, because after Prelude the whole song goes to s***. I did do it live in Newark.
TheSpiritOfLerxst Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I didn't have a clue what we were talking about until I played Hemispheres and caught it. I do the "ding" every time and move my finger in the air and I didn't even realize that was the "ding."The "ding" reminds me of an idea popping up in Neil's head, perhaps sensing trouble with the trees... 1
Lorraine Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Any more dingers? Edited August 31, 2015 by Lorraine
AnEggplant Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 If you mean in the Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres overture, then yes, I always do the ping.
Rhyta Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Ok, I think after listening to the Overture, I would say I Ting! 3
MMCXII Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Omg Lorraine it's not a ping it's a ding!! Real Rush fans and dialup divas alike should know this!! Lol I'm going to assume it's Neil who does that awesome ding! As for the "ping' maybe check with Portnoy. . :D 2
MMCXII Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Or is a ping just a female ding..? my apologies if it is ;) 1
Lorraine Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 As long as you do it, I guess it doesn't matter what anyone calls it! So Ding!!! away!

goose Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 (edited) is this the part in Hemispheres where Neil hits the triangle? For the technically curious, it's not a triangle, but a crotale, which is a small Tibetan cymbal, usually found on pairs as a finger-held "ting" machine... http://www.kolberg.com/products/cache//183/108681306_00_1306_px1000.png ...or as part of larger orchestral set.. Rock drummers will use a single one (like this one made by Zildjian) as part of their kit...http://s3.amazonaws.com/images.static.steveweissmusic.com/products/images/uploads/1105890_4799_large.jpg Ting on! goose Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Plenty of "ting" here...mixed with the longer "ziiiing" of bowed crotales. You may here some YYZ in here... 1

JohnnyBlaze Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 To me, it's more a Ting! than a "Ding", but yes, nearly all the time.Ting is Irish for "Thing"...so Ye'll have to leave that Ting alone http://img11.deviantart.net/417e/i/2012/080/4/f/thing_collage_color_by_lostonwallace-d4tg29p.jpg

Well, this is supposed to be a throwback to the early days. So technically, it's his old haircut. Signed, Permanent Blaze 2
Lorraine Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Seven people here don't know what I'm talking about. John Rogers, what do you have to say about that? 1
Lorraine Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Turn in your fan club cards and your fake Geddy Lee nose and glasses pronto. 1
