Union 5-3992
I have been virtually Rushless since January. Now I crave Devy. It started last night with his Casualties of Cool project beckoning me. Then Ocean Machine. I must control myself, but I feel a terrible need for Terria tonight

Union 5-3992
I'm very glad that you like Deconstruction. If I were to give you a list of albums to listen to, I would have put that one last because of how wild it is. I feel I liked it way more once I got to know the rest of his music that album suddenly clicked.
Segue Myles
I think my little love affair with DT is past that initial phase of excitement. Played Octavarium, and I am not so keen on a few songs. The Root Of All EvilThese WallsSacrificed SonsOctavarium The rest? Good. Not great. It is interesting now I am able to listen to them with more experienced ears! The U2 and Muse songs have lost their edge for me. The album is now an 8/10. The four songs I highlighted are genuine classics. Edited February 4, 2016 by Segue Myles

The Analog Cub
I'm dipping further into Devin Townsend..........this guy may Be my fav metal artist. Such a great body of Work.' InfinityPhysicistBiomechAccelerated EvolutionTerriaEpicloud I love this Guy. Mick THESE TEARS ARE BECAUSE OF THE FEELS YOU JUST GAVE ME BRO! Amazing man! I haven't really binged on his music for centuries though. Another guy i can say doesn't have a bad album that i've heard yet. very varied too. Little Zappa in him too......cause he has a flair for the Immature. lol Mick I thought you'd like him based on your live of Zappa. Played Ziltoid yet? It's monkey nuts. Zeltoid is one i've yet to get to. Played Deconstruction last night. and that was like.......where are you taking me Devin? lol I normally would never go to metal artists live.......may sound whimpy but i like my hearing, lol but i'd shell out for devin in a heartbeat. Mick Ear plugs are nothing to be ashamed of... I have like to totally lost joy in Townsend. I overplayed him! I loves Strapping Young Lad growing up as well. Sort of like Lacuna Coil...one spin of an album every few millenniums is enough to last me for a while. (I basically have LC's music on repeat in my head everyday already!). I said to my 67 year old uncle.......sit down. and i spun Terria for him. the look on his face was like a kid at Cristmas morning. i made a new fan. See older folks CAN enjoy newer music. Mick Those studies that say that people past a certain age don't like new music as much are bullshit. My dad and I love discovering new blues artists together. Gary Clark Jr. blows him away!

It was great at first, but it doesn't rise above its influences.
Segue Myles
I like DT, but they are one of the most generic popular metal bands I have ever heard. I love them though, they do it well, but over time I just wish I felt more of a soul.

I love them though, they do it well, but over time I just wish I felt more of a soul. Thats why I used to listen to them and think...i need more emotion. Marillion. I need more energy. Rush. I need more Metal. Maiden. I need a Prog Metal band that writes better songs. Fates Warning. Nowadays I am content to listen to them and not think that but it took a long time.

See when I first discovered DT back in 2007, I preferred other bands to them. My interest in those classic bands, such as most of those you mentioned, has waned I like DT. Now I am into DT I remember why I wasn't sold on them and preferred other bands. Which is great as I listened to great stuff!

Segue Myles
I must confess, he has never been quite up there with my very favourites, but he is a tremendous artist and I find everything he does to be fascinating, whether I like it or not!
