The Amazing Spiderman

Recommended Posts

I was very unhappy with this movie.

SPOILERS:

They re-wrote how he got bit by the spider and how Uncle Ben died ???? As said above a re-boot, which was unnecessary IMHO!

It seemed really drawn out until the got to the villian vs. spiderman section of the movie. Very disappointed!

I'm a sucker for superhero movies so if it's any good at all I'll like it. But I liked the 2002 version a lot better (minus Toby McGuire and Kirsten Dunst).

Well, the original Spidey movie wasn't like the comic either (where Uncle Ben died and to some degree "how", genetically-enhanced superpider, organic webs, Ironman Goblin suit, Mary Jane, etc.) so I'm not too fussed about that. The bit that I WAS fussed about was how Peter Parker didn't really seem like Peter Parker (this guy was too cool or "normal"). But the Spidey scenes were quite good and the Lizard always was my favorite Spidey villain anyway. imho, Spider-Man 2 is easily still the best of the films by far and Spider-Man 3 is easily the worst BY FAR.

Bonus: No Kirsten Dunst! common001.gif

When are they going to quit with this comic book rehash crap?

Not for awhile. I know there's another Iron Man coming out and probably another Avengers movie or two. I'm actually surprised a lot of the movie going public isn't getting burned out on all these superhero movies over the last few years. But most of them keep on making money, so they won't stop until the movies start tanking. I also read that Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to appear in a total of nine flims as Nick Fury. He's done four or five of those already so we've still got a few more to go there. The reboot of Spiderman is supposed to be a trilogy to.

Whilst some might be "rehash crap," some of it is quite good.

There is a reason they are doing more Thor and Avengers.

I loved it. Yes, they changed the script a bit but ultimately seemed to be a much needed update to Parker's origin. I thought the original series was horrible because they missed the fact that Parker is a typical nerd before the spider bite. Once he puts on the Spidey mask he is a smartass that doesn't take things 100% seriously which leads him to develop confidence and develop as a person when he isn't wearing a mask. None of this was really present in the original series, but they nailed it in the reboot. IMO, this is what the series should have been from day one.

I disagree. In order to cleanse myself after viewing this abomination, I watched Spider-Man 2, and damn, I don't know how old you were when you saw this film last (I believe I was 10?) but definitely revisit it.

I've read through "The Amazing Spiderman" and the differences in Parker are noticeable (in the original), but pretty trivial. Slight changes in Parker's character made him a hell of a lot more likeable, he was for the most part insecure yet humble, intelligent and well kept; losing this composure at times. This new Parker is just a total douche all around.

A bit like the Batman movies - I mean, how many times can someone show how Bruce Wayne's parents died?

I've rewatched them all over the last few years. The first one was really good. The second one I found to be focused far too much on the Mary Jane conflict and not enough on doc octopus. The third one had Parker be an emo douchebag for half the movie, have 20 minutes of Venom dying like an idiot and the rest was decent.

In the Spidey comics I've read (not many mind you) and the video games I played as a child had Spiderman being a smartass while fighting people and some of that transferring to Parker in his life. You're right that they took it too far and partly made him a douche as a result of it (this is particularly apparent in his last line) but I found that it came a lot closer than the originals.

At least I'm not alone in hating this film... A good amount of 4chan agrees:

" The original concept of Spider-Man depicted a nerdy loser who gained superpowers and became a hero.

Tobey Maguire pulled off the part perfectly. He came across as a lovable unlikely hero. Andrew Garfield is a douchebag who encompasses everything Spider-Man isn't.

Shitty reboot is shitty."

"Peter Parker didn't skateboard. He took pictures for the Daily Bugle, they left that part out.

The new Spider Man movie is utter and absolute garbage for today's [Censored Your Neighborhood Friendly Spider Man] generation.

2/10"

"The Amazing Spiderman was really just a chick flick. It didn't have the comic book feel I was hoping for."

"Garfield was a good spidey, but an awful Peter Parker, and Peter Parker has always been just as, if not more important, than Spider-Man in basically all Spider-Man stories.

Amazing was the worst one yet. The original was the best."

Aside from the fact that 4chan is far from an objective or credible source on anything except pornography and the most bizarre things on the internet, Parker did in fact work for the Daily Bugle. It is not directly stated but he sees a magazine ad asking for proof of the lizard man. The ad was run for the Daily Bugle. Parker is then seen setting up cameras in the sewers.

I'm not sure which Spidey comics you read (perhaps Ultimate Spider-Man?...which I haven't read). But there was so much that was NOT like the ORIGINAL Spidey comics it's ridiculous...the big one: Peter Parker-- totally off. For one, he wouldn't have humiliated Flash Thompson like that.

Basically, if you mix parts of the first 2 Tobey Spidey films with elements of Amazing Spidey, you'd have something much closer to the comics.

IMO. This movie was so much better than the last movies. I honestly absolutely hated Toby as Peter Parker so much. I really think Toby is not that great looking of a guy and is far too much of a loser to be an "actual" Peter Parker. While Andrew can kind of be a douche in the new one, you do have to remember that Peter Parker in the comics caaan actually be a sarcastic jerk to most people except his Aunt, Harry, and love interests.

He did a very good job while being in the suit, but outside, he was meh. But I enjoy that these guys actually did follow the comics' story more than the last series. I have faith in this series, I had fun watching this movie because the Lizard is actually an awesome villain. It sets up his parents' story for a good starter to a trilogy. I do hope that they continue using awesome villains like the Kingpin, Carnage, or Venom. Maybe Hob Goblin + Green Goblin would be cool.

And one more thing...EMMA STONE.

To be specific, early Spidey (THIS Parker) was not like how he was in the Amazing Spider-Man. He wasn't a douche THEN. He didn't really start to develop that sarcastic bit until much later...anyway...

I like the Lizard a lot too (the best Spidey one imho) and yeah I think IN the Spidey suit, he was pretty good. That part when he was in the backseat of the car as that thief was trying to steal it seemed like it could've been taken straight out of the comics.

Spidey's got some decent villains and there are a bunch that would be worth doing...some of which you've mentioned.

I am in the minority but I LOVED the movie! A classic of its genre, imo. I thought it was way better than I expected it to be and I had a great time at the movies. Its all about being entertained, and I was.

When are they going to make, "The Tick"? atickhum.gif

that will be epic!

Don't like um, don't go. Simple as that.

That's how I feel about utter shit like Harry Potter, Star Trek, and Star Wars.

I don't like them, so I don't go to see them.

I love the Marvel empire, and love going to the movies. Batman is also going to kick ass. Guess it was a good idea to reboot that series, eh?
