I was thinking Falling into Infinity if that album had a bit more edge.

The guitar work in The Garden reminds me a lot of Petrucci's recent stuff. Very good stuff. Two paragons of prog.

When I said it sounded like Awake, Train of Thought, or Octavarium, I was thinking along the lines of the overall sound and production of it, not so much song structure, song writing, lyrics, etc. I'm probably gonna have to listen to it again, but it's definitely Dream Theater like that's for sure.

I'm so glad they kept the Caravan solo from the single version. wub.gif I remember reading some don't care for it, but for me it's classic wonky Lerxst goodness wub.gif

It reminded me a lot of Trial of Tears and Lines in the Sand.

Edit: and a little bit of Raise the Knife in the chorus biggrin.gif

Yep, now I definitely see where you're coming from. Listening to it again, the beginning of Clockwork Angels has the opening of Trial of Tears, the chorus has the chorus from Raise the Knife, and finally chunks of Line in the Sand during the rest of the song.......

But I still think it has a heavier sound a la Train of Thought. tongue.gif

4th time through the album. The Garden is the first Rush song that made me outright cry. It took the 4th listen but it all clicked. The lyrics...are fantastic.

This might be Peart's best lyrical performance. This album right here.

I can't wait to see where the song that made you cry fits into your catalog rankings! That's got to end up pretty high!

Well, Nickelback usually leaves me in tears...

Well I finally got my first real listen of the album in after being at work all evening. The songs that really stood out initially were The Wreckers, The Garden, and I was pleasantly surprised with Wish Them Well. The Garden is just.. magnificent. I frickin love it already. Clockwork Angels is good, and I've only listened to it twice, but I know it'll grow on me. I love how it is all over the place.

I was kinda disappointed with Seven Cities of Gold. But I know this album will grow on me pretty quickly biggrin.gif

Ok. Gave a listen. The only word out of my mouth when The Garden finished was, "interesting".

No one song immediately floored me, but the way the whole album was put together, was seamless and brilliant. The Garden was my favorite song after the one listen.

I'll definitely have to listen to it again, but overall all, the first impression was a very, very solid effort from start to finish. Something we have not heard in a very long time.
