  9. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 19 2012, 01:28 AM) The title track on this new record is EPIC!!!! It's taken me many spins but I have finally fallen in love with this song. As a drummer I just love when Neil clicks his sticks on the track!!! This album is like a chameleon of all of their albums combined into one!!!! "Clockwork Angels" contains the elements from every Rush era!! From "Caress Of Steel" to "Vapor Trails" for sure!!! When I listen to Neil's drumming throughout this new record I hear a lot of "One Little Victory." He has the double pedal thumping like the heart of a teenaged boy getting his first kiss under a warm summer moon. Neil is the shite! The greatest drummer of all time! Well since Buddy Rich!! One of my favorite things about the song is the stick clicks!
  10. QUOTE (Two0neOneTwo @ Jun 19 2012, 01:58 PM) [....]I think the music is some of the best Rush has done. My dismay is really not about the music at all. Its about the production, mix of it. [....] Its the same over compressed smash in the face. You know why the Garden is such a great song on CA? For me, its because the song itself allows one to appreciate the intricacies and "for a moment" forget about the WALL of SOUND that the rest of the album is. [....] I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying, however the last two minutes of The Garden are brick-walled/compressed more than any other part of the entire Clockwork Angels album, unfortunately. I agree however that up and including the guitar solo there is plenty of dynamic range and space in the music. After that, it is a different story.
  11. QUOTE (theredtamasrule @ Jun 16 2012, 09:21 AM) Initially I knew this little odd bit was a skipper, it wasn't even a real song. Besides I thought it was placed in a bad spot after Headlong Flight. I maintain that it should follow The Wreckers just because of the characters situation in that song.[....] So, acceptance of this odd tune now makes for a Rush album that has zero bad tracks in my opinion. That hasn't happened for me since GUP. ^^Agreed^^ !!

Fukk Dukk! Goober lives directly me above me by one state and I must say even I can't believe that fukking list. "Vapor Trails" number one and the first "Rush" record last? The guy who did this rank must be 15 years old. Ugh. This guy is the sound expert guy! Hahaha! Wow Pat! What a joke!! Talk about being exposed. EPIC FAIL!!!! He or she must have too much wax in those earholes of ignorance. Really?! So opinions on what one's favorite album is can no longer be subjective but can be characterized as 'wrong' or a 'FAIL'? VaporTrails sounds like absolute S#!t , but that doesn't affect its ranking as far as the quality of the song writing and the playing are concerned.
  13. QUOTE (UltimoGuitarist @ Jun 15 2012, 10:54 PM) theres crows in bu2b? good question (I didn't notice them . . . and that my JOB)!!

  15. QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Jun 12 2012, 02:30 PM) Just curious here...this means that the record label has submitted a 96kHz master to this site for conversion to Flac? If so, how are you sure? I would hope that what they're selling is Not just an up-converted rip of the CD. It's a valid question, especially because high-res album versions aren't normally released the same day as the standard CD. Roadrunner records reported, some weeks back, that HDTracks.com was going to be the venue for the high-res release . . . http://news.cygnus-x1.net/2012/04/clockwor...eleased-in.html
  16. Clockwork Angels now available at HDTracks.com (Audiophile 96kHz/24bit) . . . downloading now . . . ENJOY !!! https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=cat...=HD016861765637
  17. QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Jun 11 2012, 08:06 AM) I know what he's talking about with We Hold On, but I think it was an error with the first pressing of S&A because the MVI wasn't like that. I don't hear any mistakes in CA though. ^^ you are correct sir^^ Thanks for elucidating.
  18. QUOTE (Snaked @ Jun 5 2012, 05:29 PM) MiTA - As the resident audio expert I have a request if you have the time. Could you possibly do an A/B - Left/Right of Caravan. The old version in one channel and the album version in the other? Also.. perhaps easier if you have time... could you do a stereo mixdown of the 2 versions? If you don't have the time I totally understand. But if you could do these I think it would be cool. I think I understand what you are asking for ("A/B - Left/Right of Caravan. The old version in one channel and the album version in the other") . . . however what do you mean when you say "a stereo mixdown of the 2 versions"
  19. 7 Cities of Gold sounds like Max Websters "Battlescar" , specifically when Geddy sings "... across the nation..." Am I the only one who hears this? I think they may have done it on purpose (similar to the nod they gave to Bastille Day, etc . . . )
  20. QUOTE (presto123 @ Jun 4 2012, 10:29 PM) QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Jun 4 2012, 09:24 PM) Fourth listen, and The Anarchist has grown on me. Some cool stuff happening there. I also really like BU2B2. Even if its just "filler" or and interlude, its still a really cool. Love the strings on that track. Also Wish You Well is a very catchy but good pop rock song. If it sounds like King's X like people here have stated, then I need to start listening to King's X. If you don't know any King's X you need to start NOW. One of my fav bands. Indeed, King's X rules, however, stating that "Wish Them Well" sounds like King's X is no compliment to King's X !!
  21. Caravan - slightly different mix, more keys n the chorus, extra vocal line at the end BUB2 - Biggest surprise... this mix is far superior to the original. Alex' guitar is clearer, all the parts are distinct and are not the sonic blur of the single version. There is echo/reverb on Geddy's vocals not found on the single ("...loves us all to death..."). Clockwork Angels - wasn't expecting to like this, but thought it was very ambitious, varied stylistically, took some chances musically (always a favorite surprise in a RUSH album) The Anarchist - I don't remember much of it. It will require repeated listens Carnies - Not impressed, seems weak. May require more scrutiny on my part Halo Effect - Needs repeated listens. Either this song, or was it the Anarchist, has a very distict 80's vibe (Alex's guitar sound and soloing style) Seven Cities of Gold - Finally some very nice playing by all. I liked the unison guitar/bass playing; a much needed break from the multiple layers of sound of the previous songs. This may grow on me. The Wreckers - This one is beautiful, powerful song. Great melodies, very emotionally powerful chorus. My favourite of the album. Headlong Flight - A solid, but not inspired, hard-rocking RUSH song BU2B2 - I don't get, I just don't get it or like it (the first must-skip RUSH song in some time for me). Wish Them Well - Starts off fine, gets repetitive and disappointing... starts to redeem itself surprisingly, then gets all overblown and bombastic. (I may leave it off my custom CA playlist but I will continue to try to see if it has merit). The Garden - Great end the album. Pretty unique in the RUSH catalog inasmuch as Geddy's singing goes... very emotional and melodically beautiful. The piano is a nice touch as are the deftly written string parts. Best part of the song however is Alex's unexpectedly bold, raw, and touching guitar solo. Overall, very well done (and if I take out a couple of weaker songs it becomes a real standout record)!!
  22. QUOTE (quantex @ Jun 4 2012, 06:31 PM) I must say, for some reason I am touched by The Wreckers. I cried. Anyone else. Yeah, it had an unexpectedly strong emotional effect on me. I don't exactly know why, but perhaps the melancholy melody mixed with the sober lyrics along with the possibility that this could be (we've said this about all their recent studio records) their final album. It is still somewhat inexplicable the strong pull this song has. I'm glad its a good Rush song at least!
