  1. Oh!! What a big man you are! Let me give you a pack of gum and show you how to chew it!
  2. Cuz they remind me of Rush. Fast paced, spacy prog with sci-fi lyrics, pushing the boundaries of music. They're putting out 5 studio albums next year. A good band to follow right now.
  3. Lamb Lies Down Duke Foxtrot Nursery Cryme Selling England
  4. Hey Rush fam. Lately I've been singing Rush at some karaoke contests and I thought I'd post the videos here. I normally don't air guitar and drum when I do karaoke but the judges score on stage presence as well as vocals. You guys should check it out and let me know what you like or what I can improve on. Thanks! 1st place out of 17 people Tom Sawyer 2nd place out of 16 people Limelight
  5. I heard Rush on the radio all through my life growing up, but they never piqued my interest. Then one day when I was about 16 (I'm 21 now) I was in my friend's dad's car and Working Man was on the radio. He told me Rush were awesome and I would really like them. I was blown away by Working Man. And equally blown away when I later found out that Working Man was on their first album. HOW? (I thought) So yeah, heard Working Man, went to Walmart the next day and bought "Spirit of Radio: Greatest Hits" When I first started listening to them I just liked that they had a really unique sound. It was spacy, colorful, intricate, flavorful. Over time I began more and more to appreciate Geddy's style of playing bass and Alex's style of playing guitar. Geddy Lee is bar-none my favorite bass player. Alex is tied with a couple others. I can't say I like anyone more than Alex, but at times I think David Gilmour and Steve Howe are equally as creative. Neil Peart is objectively the best drummer ever. Rush is the greatest band of all time. But to me, Genesis is hot on their trail. Remember when classic Genesis was new and fresh and mind blowing? I'm in that phase. That phase is long gone with Rush, and in fact, I haven't listened to them in like a year, because before that year I listened to them EXCLUSIVELY for like three years. Take my advice, if you're new to Rush - PACE YOURSELF. I know it's addicting, but just fight the urge. I'm here for anyone who needs help.
  6. I think it had something to do with leather pants and someone being embarrassed.
  7. Rush CD's at Wal-mart are $4.99. (Except Clockwork Angels and Time Machine Live, of course.) I've seen Signals, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and Hemispheres each for 4.99, remasters.
  8. The Body Electric > Middletown Dreams The Pass > Bravado Carnies > Seven Cities of Gold Manhattan Project > Dreamline Spirit of Radio < 2112 Easy choice: Setlist A

  10. QUOTE (big lou @ Jul 30 2012, 12:24 PM) Old is new again -- I predict they will open with 2112 - Overture and Temples. I think they should open with just Overture and leave out Temples. That way they don't have to downtune. The can go straight from "And the meek shall inherit the earth" to the guitar riff at the beginning of Grand Finale. So basically Overture - Grand Finale, not downtuned.

  13. QUOTE (Oakhugginghippie @ Jul 8 2012, 02:49 PM) QUOTE (SlyJeff @ Jul 8 2012, 09:27 PM)QUOTE (Oakhugginghippie @ Jul 8 2012, 02:20 PM) I'll give it an 8. I'm a new RUSH fanatic and have constantly listened to RUSH for only one month or so. That means CA competes of my listening time with such classic albums as Moving Pictures , Permanent Waves and A Farewell to Kings. If I find time for CA besides these it can't be worse than 8. The only instant classic song is The Anarchist (The Garden comes close) but there are plenty of songs that are great and then some that still need more listening. I envy you right now. How did you find the band? I heard it fist time when one of my favourite bloggers posted a link to Freewill this March. I was fascinated by the song because of its message, but not enough to listen to their other songs. After that the name of the band popped up in other occasions (a fellow students music player in a park, some stranger in a cool 2112 shirt) and I had to find out more so I put Permanent Waves in my iPod and then my head exploded I felt so lucky that I still could get the tickets to next year's show in Finland. And I'm sure I've been in some altered state of consciousness for one month now. But myself, I envy those who have known about RUSH for a long time and seen them play live since the 70s or 80s. I wasn't even born back then. Take your time going through the back catalog, and don't expose yourself to too many songs or albums at once. Let one album soak in fully before moving on to the next. Also, it might be cool to leave one song from each album unlistened to. For example, listen to all off Moving Pictures except The Camera Eye, and then go back to TCE at a much later date. I still haven't heard Middletown Dreams, but I've heard every other song from that album (Power Windows) hundreds of times. I know I have a treat waiting for me when I finally decide to listen to it. There's a few songs like that that I am holding out on.
  14. I voted 10... even though Goober has obviously rigged this poll to make a 10 ridiculously hard to achieve. Absolute perfection?? Come on. How 'bout make 10 "F***in awesome" Maybe we'd get more people voting 10. Off topic thought - Why isn't CA in the banner slideshow up at the top of the page yet?
  15. This song is pretty underrated on this board and I have no idea why. I think it's easily in the same league as the title track, The Anarchist, The Garden, and Headlong Flight.
  16. I would love to hear trenken sing some Clockwork Angels tunes. Then we could see for ourselves how 70's Geddy would sound singing the new tunes.
  17. QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 2 2012, 08:58 PM) QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 2 2012, 04:59 PM) QUOTE (Animate @ Jul 2 2012, 11:51 AM)QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 2 2012, 11:21 AM) You shouldn't need tabs. Most of the bass is pretty up front in the mix so you can just hear the notes. And he isnt playing anything too fast or complex to make it difficult to learn by ear. Everything on here should be easy to pick up by ear and just memorizing the notes. That 2nd little bass solo in YYZ, yeah I get why you would need tabs for that, but there is nothing even remotely close to that on this album. Do you have any youtube videos of Rush bass covers you have done? I would love to see them. Although I would not be able to give any real critique, as I usually just like guitar covers. Yeah, Trenken talks a lot about his superior bass playing, guitar playing, singing and songwriting, but has never posted any links. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 3 2012, 07:06 PM)Ive been slaving away writing and album myself for the last 3 years. Doing it all myself on the Mac in Logic, and Ive made it a serious focus not to use power chords if I didnt need to. I only really use them on melodic choruses sometimes, or some here and there in other parts but trying to avoid them because when I use them they sound so generic. Actually Im really loving using dissonant chords in some of the heavier songs because its so different sounding, something Alex doesnt do for some reason. And also trying to do interesting things with the guitar in the verses, not playing chords, but notes, effects, etc... I did post a youtube vid of me singing Hemispheres. Not my problem you missed it chump. I hit the notes after hours of recording my own stuff with a tired voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eljJsLYbKjI I f**k up some notes in there from worn out vocals, but I can point you to some youtube vids of Geddy on the Hemispheres tour sounding far worse than what I recorded there if you like. On a Rush board where everyone sucks their cocks all day noone can be good at anything without being labelled as arrogant. The only people that say that are the ones that suck. f***ing hater. I guess if you cant sing their toughest stuff or play bass as good then you just hate on those that can, and Im a far better bassist than I am a singer. That was absolutely awful.
  18. Protagonist (Young): Angus T. Jones (Two and a Half Men) Protagonist (mid age): Tim Allen (Home Improvement) The Anarchist: Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) The Watchmaker/pedler: Robert Englund (Freddie Krueger) Trapeze love interest: Scarlett Johansen I chose Tim Allen and Tom Hanks so the CA movie would be like a Toy Story cast reunion.
  19. What will you vote?
  20. Easy poll for me. Rush, Fly by Night, Caress of Steel = Bottom three on my list CA, SA, VT = Three best albums
  21. They're both so awesome it's hard to judge. CA is like 1,000,000,000,700 and SA is at like a 995,000,000,000,000. Out of 10. So I guess I like CA better, but when we're speaking in numbers this large and music this brilliant it's pointless to compare.
