Ha! Great thread! These are songs from my childhood and definitely hold a sentimental place for sure. Just a few off the top of my head, starting with my favorite:

Silly love songs

Id really love to see you tonight - England Dan and John Ford Corley

Come and Get Your Love - Redbone

Right back where we started from -- Maxine Nightingale

Summer breeze - Seals and Crofts

Moonlight feels right - Starbuck

You are the woman - Firefall

There you go. Now we are more toward the pop side. I did a little research and I will post a list soon that will blow peoples minds. Most of them are top 5 chart songs. So if anybody wants to make a compilation CD stay tuned. wink.gif

Here's a list of mostly chart toppers. If you were a kid in the 70's this will cover a good majority of the top 20 for a good portion of decade. Of course I picked and choosed(I'm a fan of later 70's than early) but this is a heck of a list to build some compilation CD's off of. I didn't copy/paste this either. Enjoy.

Totally my wheelhouse too! Off the top of my head from what I see here

"The Most Beautiful Girl" Charlie Rich...makes me think of my mom! She used to play that all the time when I was little.

"Run Joey Run"...love that song! oh so dramatic!

"Hot Child in the City"...makes me feel just as good today as it ever did

"I love you"...such a treat when I hear it on the radio

oh I could go on and on, I sure am enjoying this thread!

Love this stuff!!! (Great list from Presto123; HE pretty much covered everything, eh?) This stuff takes me right back to being a little kid, right back to a much simpler time. Listening to these songs, I can go back, I can stay awhile... b_sigh.gif

The soft stuff by the Carpenters, Seals & Crofts, and Simon & Garfunkel... great! Also Three Dog Night, America, early stuff by Chicago, Jim Croce, those sappy songs by Bread, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Firefall, Ambrosia, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Pablo Cruise, Poco, Player, and 10cc... And oh yeah, these songs, too:

Brand New Key - Melanie

Sometimes When We Touch - Dan Hill

One Tin Soldier - Coven

Ooh Child - The Five Stairsteps

Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

Right Down the Line - Gerry Rafferty

Magic - Pilot

Sentimental Lady - Bob Welch

Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Swede

Sky High - Jigsaw

Play That Funky Music White Boy - Wild Cherry

Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas

Indian Reservation - Paul Revere and the Raiders

Jack and Jill - Raydio

I also like the perky optimism of late 60/early 70s stuff which is now labeled "sunshine pop." Talk about taking me back to simpler times! What about "Up Up and Away" by the Fifth Dimension, "Sing" by the Carpenters, "Windy" by the Association, "Like to Get to Know You" by Spanky and Our Gang, "Georgy Girl" by the Seekers, "Red Rubber Ball" by the Cyrkle, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" by the Hillside Singers, etc.? It's HAPPY music, it's of a SIMPLER TIME, it's almost CHILDISH and NAIVELY free of darkness and irony... and yet I'm almost haunted by this stuff!

Awesome!

Anyone remember those mash-ups they used to do...where it was like an interview question followed by a song clip? I remember loving them as a kid...

Remember Life is a Rock by Reunion? I loved that thing as a kid.

For the 2 of you that mentioned Driver's Seat by Sniff -n- the Tears.....hell yes! I consider it almost alternative before there was such a thing rather than pop but regardless, helluva song.

Nick Gilder was mentioned. He has some other really cool tunes in addition to "Hot Child".

Pat Benatar covered Gilder's song 'Rated X' on her 1979 debut album In the Heat of the Night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hY3OfTQT3a8

Speaking of which, Benatar celebrated her 67th birthday on January 10th.

Also Gilder co-wrote 'The Warrior' that Scandal featuring Patty Smyth recorded.
