Which is your reason for not accepting HF as Epic?

  1. 1. Which is your reason for not accepting HF as Epic?

    • 1. HF has so much Balls that accepting it as Epic would indicate you're Gay! (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

It's a long song that easily could easily fit the 4 1/2 minute format. Actually the single version is way better with the fat trimmed off.

 

It's like if they made The Colour of Right 7 minutes long. That wouldn't be an epic, and anyone who said that it was would be lynched here.

 

In fact I don't consider The Camera Eye and Epic as it's just the same 4 minute song played twice with different lyrics and a pretty opening.

 

Rush's last rue epic was Natural Science. It was bold, had changing time signatures, felt mysterious and grand and the lyrics supported the epicness of the music.

 

HF has the same simple lyrics played over power chords for 7 minutes with the only break being a demented solo and the distorted vocals out of nowhere.

 

Caravan is immensely more epic than this in both sound and atmosphere.

Oh I'm dealing with the fact that you just compared "Headlong Flight" to "The Colour of Right". Which isn't even in the same ballpark. When I listen to " The Colour of Right" all I hear is what is wrong. Can you please compare "Headlong Flight" to something more appropriate like, "Freewill", "Limelight", "By-Tor & the Snowdog"!

I think that the term epic is so overused that it has rendered the definition meaningless. Who cares if something is epic now days because apparently everything is?

 

The word epic and the people who utter it endlessly on line and in really life need to go die in a fire.

By Tor was pure unconcentrated prog goodness.

HF is an average Rock song painfully extended to 7 minutes. No considerable changes in time signatures, a shit tier solo, the atmosphere of the song dies in the first minute.

 

I don't even like 70's rush and I know that HF doesn't hold a candle to any of the good songs you just mentioned. I'm not even a troll, I just think your fanboy is showing at the moment. Which is fine, seeing as how it's Forum made for fanboys. Just try to think about what you're saying, k?

In my hypothetical, wistful musings about doing away with all this nonsense about what is and isn't "epic", were I to succeed, it would not be a violation of the first amendment in the least, nor would I be restricting anyone's "right to free speech" that people love to hide behind.

Dude, you need to stop smoking that stuff. Saying that "Headlong Flight" is "Epic" or "Not Epic" is not hiding behind the first amendment or using it to your advantage. Now, hacking into a website to stifle other people's comments has all sorts of negative implications.
