Oh it's epic, alright, it's just not an epic.

^BINGO.

I've said this in the other threads, but simply put, there isn't enough of an actual story within those 7 minutes to really constitute an epic.

This song is part of a bigger story...the CA story. But the song itself is nothing more than a chapter really.

An epic to me, tells a story from start to finish, which HF does not. But again, the song itself kicks ass. 1022.gif

I love it no matter if it is perceived as Epic or not.

This.

Also, it's just not adventurous enough with enough variety and changes and different sections in it, etc. to be AN EPIC. I have no problem with anyone thinking it's epic because of the song length or quality (even though I think it falls a bit short of that description personally), but in terms of it being AN epic. no.gif

Sorry...I voted for Option 11:

"I can't accept it as an epic because it is definitely NOT an epic, and the obsessed 'new schoolers' who are over-joyed with HF because it's a new Rush song need to step back and realize that just because it has a slight similarity to Bastille Day in one riff, that it certainly does NOT mean it is an epic...and besides Bastille Day wasn't actually an epic anyways"

I vote that this is the dumbest poll I've ever seen.

I guess you haven't seen Treeduck's polls yet!

But treeduck's are so ridiculous as to be funny, which is of course its intent.

You forgot two other options: wink.gif

-Who cares? The song rocks anyway, whether you call it an epic, metal, or a freaking love sonnet.

-The overuse of the word "epic" gets on my last nerve.

Yeah, but yours is about as funny as being the arse-end of a pantomime horse at a hillbilly Panto.

The epic in Headlong Flight epicals mainly on the epically.

Just approved by the FDA, expectant mothers can now recieve an epicdural shot of HF during childbirth.

To the detractors:

HF is AN epic- the storyline however is not explicitly given in the lyrics. Instead, the bombastic music and refrain should invoke the epic nature of your own life experiences. If you are having difficulty filling in the blanks with regards to personal epic experiences, that is a different problem all together and not the fault of the song itself.

Sorry...but that doesn't make much sense to me.

Why can't everyone that state that it's a kick ass song that rocks? Why does it HAVE to be given the definition of an 'Epic'??

If a song is not an 'Epic', does it then suck? I don't get it. They written a shit-load of songs over their careers that are far from epics, and yet, kick so much ass.

Freewill, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, etc. Headlong Flight is just another spoke on the wheel...it rocks, and that's all that matters!

Why is this 'Epic' label such a big freaking issue? However you label it, the song is still awesome. fing.gif beathorse.gif

Because, as stated previously, "epic" can just mean "very good" in contempory slang but in rock music it more usually means long and on a grand scale. I suggest that an "epic" track would have to be over 10 minutes.
