  1. That new Haken album The Mountain is a pretty ballsy albums, I'd say for me it's definitely up there for albums this year along with The Raven (which changed my mind about ol' Steven Wilson)
  2. Listened to Reflektor. Still trying to figure out what on earth I just heard. I liked it. But I still don't know what I liked.
  3. The latest album is like Syd Barrett meets modern production, pretty insane. Also, their piece "Siberian Breaks" is their proggiest song, lasting about 12 minutes, also a great piece
  4. Hi there everyone, the band I am in recently released a new single called "Hello?" from our latest album. It has evident Rush and Camel influences in its synth and guitar solos. Hope you enjoy it, or at least give us a listen :) http://youtu.be/UbJxXg0OxLw
  5. Can't wait for this, been looking forward to it for a long time
  6. Neil Peart couldn't drum his way out of a paper bag
  7. I saw them at Prog Day last year in North Carolina. Quite a group! Remind me of a modern Mahavishnu, mixed with a Govan-esque guitarist.
  8. I am a Christian myself, but I am in sharp opposition of essentially every "Christian band" of today. Just can't stand the musicianship, the lack of lyrical depth (how can an atheist like Peart make a song more religious sounding that a modern Christian's repetition of 'I love you, you love me'?), and just the fact that the quality isn't there. However, I do enjoy the music of House of Heroes as far as Christian bands.
  9. I am not one who is a fan of the super metal and heavy tracks, so my list might be a bit different from the rest of yours 10. Windowpane 9. Folklore 8. Hours of Wealth 7. Hex Omega 6. The Devil's Orchard 5. Burden 4. Ending Credits 3. Isolation Years 2. Marrow of the Earth 1. Nepenthe
  10. Are they making a single edit for "The Anarchist"?
  11. Some buddies of mine are in a sorta blues-rock and classic rock style band and are in the Ernie Ball competition to play at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival in N.Y. this year. You can show your support by liking their FaceBook page (http://www.facebook.com/ScottFarleyBand) and voting support on the official Play Crossroads Competition website (http://www.playcrossroads.com/u/ScottFarleyBand). Big thanks to anyone who wants to get involved by showing support!
  12. Reminds me of the harmonizing technique Allan Holdsworth used on "Metal Fatigue."
  13. Yes at Charlotte when the first bass line comes in, its a clear recording and Geddy lifted his arms to make it seem like he was playing magically without use of hands. After the first time around, he joined in with two bass lines playing simultaneously.
  14. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Aug 27 2012, 04:10 PM) Camel - Lies Love that song. A great mood changer for the Nude album.

Happy 8th 2112 of the year No chance. Neil looks way too happy to be posing for a picture with a "stranger that is not a long awaited friend". Especially since he's sitting in the guy's lap and an arm around his waist. Well you see, that's not a stranger at all-- IT'S MR. PEART HIMSELF!! http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o492/dsiebold/NeilandNeil.jpg

    Symbology

QUOTE (spock @ Jul 14 2012, 10:32 PM) I was flipping through the liner notes earlier and found a few things: The time on the sun dial near The Garden lyrics is showing 1:00 (or pointing to BU2B) - significant? Or, a random point selected by Hugh? The time on a different sun dial near the Caravan lyrics points to Carnies. The sun dial near the Caravan lyrics has the symbols from the Clock on the outside, but also has two more concentric rings with other symbols that I can't quite make out. These are all signs of a deeper hidden message, or it's late and I need to go to bed. Good night! Hey man, did you hear Paul McCartney actually died halfway through the Beatles career because the pictures so clearly point to that conspiracy?
  18. While it was a bit tense during the 2 weeks surrounding CA's release, I am enjoying these fake threads a lot more now than I did back then. I think we have a lot of creative people on the forum that just get trampled on for having some fun through writing.
  19. This definitely sheds some more light upon the story that is Clockwork Angels. Peart had mentioned before that it wasn't set in a dystopia per se, but that didn't make sense to me until I heard Neil say that the watchmaker was genuinely making sure that nobody lacked anything (in the form of the Pedlar). Neil seems warmhearted in the interview as well, which I think may be due to the fact that he is being recognized for the hard work he put into making perhaps the greatest album of the decade.
  20. For me, none of the options quite fit right simply because I don't think that VT is completely a bad album and I don't hate it. Certainly, although it's been beaten to death, the sound quality irks me to no end, so I'm pretty sure my main impression will change once they do the remix and remaster. However, I do think a few of the songs on that album are a bit weak and it goes on a bit too long. Then again, some of SnA seems that way, and I love that album. However, CA seems to eclipse both of those works by a large margin in my mind, with SnA being second and VT being third. Amazes me how these 3 albums all show Rush at different stages throughout the decade from recovery, stability, and now taking on new ground with CA. It almost seems like the band started fresh with VT after the "hiatus" and that they followed a metaphorical scheme of the real first three albums. Vapor Trails is hard, dirty, and loud, just like the first Rush album. Snakes and Arrows possesses some very beautiful pieces featuring acoustic guitar, as well as some bluesy rock like the beginning of "The Way the Wind Blows", which is similar to Fly By Night. Finally, Clockwork Angels shows the band going for bigger, longer, better, and more musicianly inclined like Carress of Steel.
  21. It has to do (although the clock thing may have been intentional as well) with switching from an almost shuffle-like 4/4 time to a 6/8 bridge and chorus.
  22. Nice interview, although Alex sounds a bit hoarse, wonder if he was being led to water
  23. QUOTE (vrooom @ Jun 13 2012, 04:44 AM) Hi! I've just uploaded my first look at the Clockwork Angels Fan Pack on the YouTubes and thought it might be of interest to you there Rush fans. Enjoy!
